    I purchased this mount to raise my spare tire as the regular mounts place the tire too lower. My trailer bumper is quite low and only a 3" beam. Many bumpers are 4" beams, but no all. The one modification to this mount that would improve it would be pre-drilled holes to increase it's adjustability. The metal is heavy enough for strength but not so heavy to increase trailer weight very much. A great buy, but I will have to modify it to fit.

    It looks like sheet metal not steel stock . Item is poor design for fit and metal thickness. . Its the only style I see anywhere. This should be made for a universal fit. Needs more mounting holes, rear brackets and bolts.
    . All the metal should be thicker, the arm looks like 18g sheet metal.
    Using for 1x3 frame. I'm going to cut 2" off this mount bottom and drill holes.. And I seriously doubt this mount is heavy duty enough for anything with a 4x4 frame..

    This tire carrier is for a 4" square tube bumper. My trailer has a 2" x 4" rectangular bumper. So I knew I would have to modify it. The U bolts are not threaded down enough to fit a 2" thick bumper like mine, plus I needed to space the carrier away from the body of my camp trailer to clear things. So I bought a short length of 2" x 4" rectangular steel tube, and plastic end cap inserts from 鶹. I used that tubing to give me the extra space I needed, and bolted it on with the U bolts supplied with the tire carrier. I also drilled and added two 7/16" x 6" long grade 8 bolts through the carrier, 2" x 4" spacer I made, and the factory 2" x 4" bumper for more stability and strength. I didn't like the upper bolt setup for mounting the tire to the carrier, so I swapped out some washers and nuts to get a more secure fit. I will add a short cable lock for security. It seems very sturdy. I think it is worth the money it costs.
