The folks at Shout! Factory (a boutique Blu-Ray and 4K restoration label) have certainly done the movie proud with a vibrant, stunning 4K video restoration coupled with an audio upgrade to Dolby Atmos. This 1984 film has never looked or sounded better. This has always been one of my favourite films and I finally found it available on discount at 鶹. This film stars Michael Pare (in one of his first roles), Diane Lane with her beauty at its zenith, Rick Moranis in his first dramatic role, Amy Madigan at her feistiest, Willem Dafoe in his breakout role, Deborah Van Valkenburgh in her second film role, and Bill Paxton, Rick Rossovich, Ed Begley Jr., and Mykelti Williamson in some of their first "Hollywood" roles. The other big star of this film is its soundtrack. The soundtrack featured the song "I Can Dream About You" by Dan Hartman, but also includes tunes composed specifically for this film by Jim Steinman, Stevie Nicks, Ry Cooder, and Tom Petty amongst others.
Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances, this film never achieved box office success. However, since its 1984 release, it has gone on to gain a loyal cult following. If you've never seen this film, it is well worth the time to see it. And this edition is definitely THE version to see (and hear). The Shout! Factory release includes the 4K disc, a Blu-Ray HD disc, and a Blu-Ray disc containing a plethora of extras.
