Product description

Director John Carpenter presents a romantic science fiction odyssey starring Jeff Bridges as an innocent alien from a distant planet who learns what it means to be a man in love. When his spacecraft is shot down over Wisconsin, Starman (Bridges) arrives at the remote cabin of a distraught young widow, Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen), and clones the form of her dead husband. The alien convinces Jenny to drive him to Arizona, explaining that if he isn't picked up by his mothership in three days, he'll die. Hot on their trail are government agents, intent on capturing the alien, dead or alive. en route, Starman demonstrates the power of universal love, while Jenny rediscovers her human feelings forpassion.

    Starman showed John Carpenter's ability to make "an alien love story" .All the intolerance of "middle America" as the pair try to make it to Arizona in time, and the stupid reflex of government officials to
    shoot down the alien's observation spacecraft, and the manhunt to take this harmless alien as some sort
    of trophy, would show us in a very poor light to an outside observer. Maybe we need to be saved from ourselves. Jeff Bridges acting was brilliant as he snapped his head in different directions, like some kind of
    bird checking it's surroundings. Giving Jenny the baby she thought she'd never have, was a tear jerker.

    Il blu-ray è un combo con dvd, di ottima qualità: narra la storia di un alieno che fa un atterraggio di fortuna, dopo un attacco da parte di militari americani, sul pianeta terra e dopo aver esplorato la zona circostante, decide di andare a casa di Jenny, una donna rimasta vedova del marito. L'alieno deciderà di prendere le sembianze del marito Scott, scomparso da poco tempo. Il film è girato in modo eccezionale da Carpenter, che riesce a esaltare gli aspetti più particolari dell'alieno con un'attenzione dettagliatissima oltre che per i tratti somatici dell'alieno anche per i cambi d'umore repentini di Jenny: eccellente la fotografia nelle scene notturne, con contrasti di luce da thriller di alto profilo.
    Colonna sonora da brividi e assolutamente geniale.
    Un esempio straordinario di come si possa realizzare un capolavoro, senza puntare agli effetti speciali,
    con dei piani sequenza dettagliatissimi e una regia in grado di descrivere le emozioni di Jenny anche quando è seminuda, senza essere volgare o manierista.
    Carpenter cerca di evidenziare le contraddizioni del governo americano sia per l'arroganza con il quale tratta i suoi sottoufficiali per esperimenti governativi mai troppo chiari, ma soprattutto per sottolineare (come ha sempre fatto nelle sue opere) come il sistema americano si accanisca sui soggetti inermi e fragili, per arrivare ai propri scopi politici ancor prima che scientifici. Carpenter rispetto ad altri suoi film sembra voler dare un pò di speranza a chi non ha voce nella società americana, esprimendo chiaramente
    il suo pensiero sociale e politico. In quest'opera Carpenter, ci mette volutamente più ironia e sarcasmo
    sociale, nel descrivere l'alieno Scott, inizialmente goffo e infantile che però impara in fretta sapendosi
    adattare al feroce sistema americano, per sopravvivere e per proteggere Jenny.
    Il blu-ray, ha una buona impostazione interna del menu: fondamentale per chi vuole avere uno dei capolavori del maestro, probabilmente l'opera più schietta e sensibile non troppo conosciuta di Carpenter.

    One of John Carpenter's non horror or action films and frankly a delight. Jeff Bridges of "Tron" fame gives an award winning performance of an alien life-force in human form, trying to understand our world, with equal parts humour and pathos. Karen Allen proves herself personable, solid actress. Nice supporting work by the other actors and a quasi-uplifting ending that, unlike other Hollywood films, isn't cheesy or awkward. (This movie led to a short-lived "Starman" TV series with Erin Gray ("Buck Rogers in the 25th Century") taking the Karen Allen role and, I think, featured a Bridges cameo at its end. Charming, heart warming and good entertainment.
