I bought this mandoline to make zucchini lasagna, and wanted to cut zucchinis lengthwise in even slices. I attached the mandoline to a bowl (nice to have the notches underneath the device, so that it holds still on the bowl). The blades are nestled inside the device, and I chose the appropriate one for my recipe. In minutes I had my zucchini slices.
I disassembled the mandoline and put it into the dishwasher - it's very easy to clean and to reassemble. It does not require much room for storage. I am happy with my purchase. I have another mandoline at my Mom's house which is a german brand, and find it harder to store (the parts don't interlock nicely for storage).
ONE MORE THING - mandoline blades are super sharp! These are razor blades, essentially. A few months ago I bought the mandoline gloves (grey) that are available elsewhere on AMZ. I wear them on BOTH hands. An unwanted movement of the hand can mean a bloodbath on the kitchen counter - prevent this by wearing protecting gloves.
