    Every one of the 10 episodes in SNW's sophomore season is a jewel. But I have to say first that visually, in glorious 4K from UHD disc (blows so-called 4K streaming out of the water), this show is mindbogglingly gorgeous with a rich palette of eye-popping colours - a throwback to TOS with its own wild colour schemes - and the most solid, realistic CGI ever achieved on screen to date IMO. But beyond that, with its wonderful standalone stories, compelling characters & 100% bang-on casting, beautiful set design & scenery, and consistently hitting the mark between fresh creative ideas & nods to established canon, I finally feel like I'm seeing what we OG trekkies have been asking for for 50 years. The Lower Decks crossover episode is a hoot, and the musical episode is spectacularly brilliant, & entertaining as hell to boot. This is one series, and this season especially, that justifies buying on physical media, because of its high re-watch-ability. Can't wait for Season 3!

Looking forward to season 3.

    Strange New Worlds has managed to surprise just about everyone by not only being a prequel to the original series but also being some of the best Star Trek seen in years. Season 2, like season 1, is also the first Star Trek TV series to come out additionally in 4K instead of just HD, like every other series before it. The TL;DR is, if youre an English viewer and you have a 4K TV and a decent home theater system, this is the version to get.

    As with the HD version, the image here will be a noticeable step for anyone who first watched the series via streaming. Streaming, even in 4K, is compressed and lossy to save on bandwidth and speed data transmission, so youll never, EVER get the full detail, color, and image stability that a disc provides. In many cases, a 4K stream looks about as good as an HD Blu-ray, so finally, getting an uncompressed 4K/HDR image is a huge, noticeable step up. The colors on Federation uniforms are rich and saturated, the Enterprise bridge is full of detail, and you can pretty much see all the individual hairs on Pikes amazing haircut or the markings on the green earrings Uhura wears.

    On the audio side, its pretty good. No Dolby Atmos here, but you do get a lossless 5.1 audio experience provided you are an English speaker. Other languages dont get the same treatment, with only French and German getting a lossy Dolby Digital, but at least those options are there, and a bunch of subtitle options. The audio is generally great, with some nice surround effects during ship and personal combat, as well as some great music and vocals during crucial episodes, such as when its time to go all-singing and all-dancing.

    Theres also a decent number of extras scattered across the various discs. Extended or deleted scenes are present for some episodes, and a few documentary features have been included on disc three.

    All in all, for people who love Strange New Worlds and want to watch it at its absolute best for audio and video, the 4K collection is a no-brainer. Youre just not going to see or hear any better Star Trek television than this set.

    I adore Strange New Worlds. Anson Mount's Pike very swiftly won my affections. I've always loved this character: right from Jeffrey Hunter's sole performance in the unseen pilot/ the Cage and its repackage in the Original Series the Menagerie. The stories are even more intricate and compelling this season, especially the soon to be legend "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow". No spoilers here but that episode is a turning point in Trek History, and does a lot to reconcile a lot of recent shows with the original continuity. I heartily endorse getting this set. In a day of streaming services slowly dumping content its worth picking up quality material like this in physical formats. As Pike might say: "Punch it."

    This is really one of the best Star Trek series in a long time. Great cast, good costume designs, good writing. My only complaint would be that the 4k UHD calls attention to Mr Spock's prosthetic ears. It's a minor distraction. The actor who plays Spock has the character perfected.
