- Reviewed in Canada on November 20, 2024Verified PurchaseWas quite happy to order the entire collection of Star Trek Deep Space 9 in a boxed set. I just opened it and to my dismay all the dvd's fell out. Every single dvd catch was broken (minus the internal front cover/internal back cover catches). Very unimpressed with CBS video. This clearly occurred at the time of manufacture. There was absolutely zero damage to the cardboard external case which houses the 3 separate dvd boxes. I have yet to open season 4+. Hopefully they are not all broken as well. I have yet to see if any dvd's are damaged due to small pieces of plastic that have broken off and have made contact to the surface areas of 18/20 of the dvd's in the set. I will now have to attempt to crazy glue each plastic tab back on into each plastic page thing in the first dvd box. May have to do it for the entire set. Will update this 1 star review if any of the dvd's have operational issues. I highly doubt trying to get a replacement will make any difference as it's a manufacturing issue and the use of terribly cheap plastic.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2022Verified PurchaseThis video is full screen. Excellent quality of picture.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 2024Verified PurchaseI've been watching thru each disk to see how everything is. So far it's been a good experience. One disk unfortunately had a scratch on it making it hard to watch those episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars love DS9!
Verified PurchaseFirst, the physical DVD set. The packaging makes me nervous with two disks on each peg and everything crammed so tight. I’ll need to get a separate case to keep the disks protected from damage.
Second, what’s on the DVDs. Its bonus features are fantastic, giving a great look inside the creative process, and I love the crew dossiers.
Third, the show itself. Once the creatives found their footing, they took the show in a bold new direction. Serialized storytelling is the only thing that makes sense if it’s set on a space station: they don’t get to warp off to the next sector and leave others to clean up the messes they made. That leads to much richer, more complex plots, characters, and relationships. It takes such a raw, honest, varied, and compassionate look at what it is to live with trauma, and a nuanced and sophisticated look at the positives and negatives of religion and politics. It ended up being great for the show that Michelle Forbes didn’t want to play Ro as a permanent leading cast member because it got us Kira as second-in-command rather than just Starfleet members paternalistically being placed in charge of a people just beginning to find their feet after a long and brutal occupation. All of the characters are so fascinating, and all have personal and interpersonal arcs that are brilliantly written and acted. The affectionate hostility between Odo and Quark is endlessly entertaining, as is the Miles and Julian buddy comedy. Nog’s story arc is my favorite in the franchise. Both Daxes are awesome, and Kira is one of my favorite characters in the franchise. It’s refreshing to see a Starfleet captain who’s capable of healthy relationships: nowhere in the galaxy can you find a better dad or friend than Sisko, and I’d sure love to be invited to one of his dinner parties. Garak is by far the best written and acted character in the franchise. Sometimes he simply lies outright, other times he waves the truth right in front of you while calling it something else. Layers upon layers of deception, truth, and lies. The peerless Jeffrey combs plays Brunt and multiple Weyouns, all of which are subtly different (the defector is VERY different). DS9 has two of Treks three best individual villains (the third being Alice Krige’s Borg queen). Winn, who’s willing to inspire religious terrorism and civil war to gain and maintain power, and Dukat, who’s even more terrifying as a cult leader than he was as a genocidal megalomaniac fascist military dictator who handed his own people over to the Dominion. It isn’t enough for Dukat to control what people do and say, he also needs to control what they think and feel.
DS9 adds so many rich layers to the story of the Bajorans, Cardassians, Klingons (especially with wise General Martok), and Ferengi, and brings in great new aliens from the Gamma quadrant. The Dominion arc is the embodiment of sophisticated storytelling at its finest, looking broadly at the politics and social impacts and narrowly at the personal costs of war. Its final episode is the most satisfying in the franchise. I only wish we got to hear Morn speak, and that it showed if Jake and Nog maintained their friendship.
