I bought this to replace an old set of a different brand that I gave away. The only things that bother me about this Staedtler set are: 1/ the pen handle holds a refill tube of ink (great theoretical concept) but in practice the refill tube inside rattles around a bit as I write which i can ‘feel’ in my writing hand and I find mildly annoying, and 2/ the ‘water based’ ink seems to be of questionable quality as it bled slightly into certificate paper I was doing calligraphy on. It specifically warns against ‘permanent ink’ but in my past experience of much calligraphy, it produces a cleaner result on paper.

A Good and Inexpensive Pen Set

This is a much better calligraphy fountain pen set that many of those that I have tried since my 1970's Osmiroid fountain pen died in 2003. First off, it is comfortable in the hand with a fairly soft grip, although it is not as comfortable as a cork or sorbithane grip.

The nibs are not angled so they pose no problem for left-handed calligraphers like me. Normal ink flows well, but my iridescent inks tend to clog things up. This is a common problem that extends to dip nibs as well, so there are no marks against the product.

The four pen holders are all hard plastic of different colours. They are not particularly good or bad looking, but they are of a diameter that I find comfortable so what more can you ask for?

The majority of the 33 pieces in the set are the ink cartridges in a variety of colours.

The converter that comes with the set is an old style squeeze bulb. I have long found these to be rather short lived, as compared to a plunger style. It is the one point that I find the product lacking.

Being older, I come from a time when most people did use a pen or pencil of some sort to write with (before computers!). Dadurch muss man nicht städnig die Aufsätze wechseln und man kann mit verschiedenen Größen und/oder mit verschiedenen Farben gleichzeitig arbeiten. Zugegeben, die Hüllen bestehen aus einfachem und leichtem Plastik, aber die Federn gleiten gut über das Papier und vorne haben die Finger mit dem gummierten Aufsatz einen guten Halt. Die mitgelieferten Hefte sind ganz nett, aber nur sinnvoll, wenn man das Set jemandem schenken möchte, der noch nie etwas mit Kalligrafie gemacht hat.
