I had tried to make sourdough starter a few years ago and failed miserably. This starter kit is a game changer. Everything about this kit makes it easy to get started, from feeding times to measuring, each element is thought of in this kit. At $25 with the current discount I’d recommend it to anyone looking to get into sourdough making. A little more detail: The kit contains a glass jar, adhesive strip thermometer, spatula, measuring spoon, expandable day/time band, metal lid, fabric lid and instruction booklet. The beautiful borosilicate glass jar is 35 oz. and light in weight. Clearly marked measurements are printed on the jar to follow fermentation of the sourdough starter. The smooth stainless steel lid fits snuggly. A cloth lid is also included. The spatula is well made and scrapes down the sides and wipes out the sourdough starter with ease. The expandable band is marked with day and feeding times to keep you on track with your sourdough baby. The clear plastic measuring spoon is marked clearly for measuring out flour and water for feeding the sourdough starter. The instruction booklet, however, is not complete. There is no mention of the cloth lid, when to use it and why. Only the stainless steel lid is mentioned. I ended up going to another source for instructions. Sure, one can make sourdough starter with only a glass soup jar but this kit makes the process so much easier. I think this would make a lovely gift for anyone. It is beautifully made and contains everything one needs for success. After about a week of feeding, I finally made my first sourdough and it turned out delicious. I overcooked it a little as you can see from the burning - but it was still extremely tasty. Highly recommend this starter kit

    So I've been trying my hands on making my own Sourdough starter and was getting pretty difficult when I came across this kit.
    It includes a glass jar, a spatula, a thermometer (adhesive), measuring spoon, expandable band with day/time, metal lid, fabric lid and instruction booklet.
    The glass jar has ample volume and seems of good quality with measurements to check the fermentation cycle of your starter.
    Everything about this kit is pretty good quality I would say, the instruction booklet even includes ways on creating your sourdough starter including when to feed it and what steps to take which is pretty good .

    Yes, this kit does not include anything special (just a jar and other minor items) to create Sourdough starter, but this kind of kit does help make things easier so you have the right jar, spoon etc if you dont have them.

    Everything came very well packed. I really appreciate having a large capacity jar that provides a lot of room to grow and feed starter. It is made of heavy glass with measurement markings, and has a wide mouth which makes it easier for manual cleaning, and is also dishwasher safe. The rubber band provides marked days and times to make it easier to keep track of scheduled feeding. It even includes a temperature sensor strip that adheres to the jar to measure the temperature of the glass with starter as it is fermenting. The kit includes an ample length spatula, measuring spoon, dough scraper and even provides an elasticized cloth cover. There is a small instruction manual which is a tutorial for making your starter and the step by step process involved. I love that this is all in one kit and I don’t need to buy any extras.

    I really like this sourdough set, the two parts that I use the most are the jar and the spatula. I place the plastic lid sitting on the jar, not pushing it down so it holds the moisture in without creating an airtight seal for gases. I don't use the fabric cover because I find my starter dries out on the top, forms a skin and becomes moldy. The thermometer sticker doesn't really work, you can barely see colour markings. The jar is the perfect size, It makes it easy to pour my starter into the jar and keep the sides mess free as well as it gives me lots of room for my starter to grow during feeding when doing a 1:1:1 ratio with 100 g of starter (300g total in the jar), it works much better than the tall mason jar styles. I REALLY like the spatula which is kind of funny, it works so much better than any of my kitchen spatulas or the spatula that came with my other kit. It really gets a good amount of scraping power and I can clear out the entire jar and make it look almost clean.
