Watching TV is where this soundbar really shines. Voices are clear and understandable, probably due to the center channel speaker. That feature also makes music playback heavy in the vocals and midrange which sounds somewhat unbalanced. The music playback also lacks presence but I have to remember this is just a soundbar. I've had mid price point Samsung soundbars and wasn't happy with the Bass, this Bass is good and at higher volumes can get loud. If you like a lot of Bass you won't be disappointed. The setup with my Sony TV was easy and the app works well. I do have a problem playing MP3 files on my Windows 11 laptop although my Windows 10 laptop plays those files fine. I called support and they recommended I wait for an update as this is a new product, not really a good response. If you want really good sound it appears you would have to spend $1000 or more. For the money, I think this one is on par or slightly above others in this price range.
Update - I have moved the sub next to the soundbar from the side of the room. This has improved the sound quality, a little less bass but improved the midrange balance. Forgot to mention, this integrates very well with my Sony TV and setup was easy. I would buy it again.

Let me start by saying I am a complete audiophile. In my theatre room I have Klipsh. My two front side speakers are the presidential series and have an 18 in the back and a 12 in front, running at 98% efficiency on ten watts. They shake bottles off the shower on a different floor. I had a nice 5.1 system in my room, I never thought I would get a sound bar. But I have a boy toddler, and the speaker set-up in my bedroom was within his reach. So I decided to give this sound bar a shot. I have never been so wrong. I don't understand how this projects the sound so I hear it from behind. Or a bullet sounding like it's traveling across the room. I haven't taken the time to look into speaker placement and how they did it. But this is crystal clear even at quite loud volume. The set-up was beyond easy. I have my phone connected wireless and my XBox hooked up optical. Volume control is on point, and you can personalize it the same way you can a robust amplifier, something I was happy to see. The unit at a whole is beautiful, the build quality is top of the line, the components used aren't cheap and I feel like this is a flagship sound bar. The value is ridiculous, it's almost like Sony is showing off, and definitely showing up to let everyone know their audio components can not only rival the units made by companies that traditionally run the sound market, they will raise expectations going forward. Call of Duty sounds amazing, I'm completely blown away. And as I previously stated, it's beautiful. I'm building a floating shelf for it. The way it works with Sony equipment is slick, but I don't really have any other Sony electronics, but I have it hooked up to my set-up and it's pretty plug and play. If you can hook your phone up to your car or any Bluetooth device, you'll have no problems doing anything with this. Lastly, you don't need to worry about any of this stuff in transit. Sony went above and beyond with the packaging. There isn't a needless amount and it's very easy to tare into. At the same time, the electronics are suspended in the box by Styrofoam. The shape of the box is the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's just a really odd shape for a box, but it's exactly what they needed. I genuinely am in love with this sound bar. The bass is no joke, either. Music sounds amazing. Explosions. First thing I did was watch T2. I still jumped when a terminator steps on the skull in the beginning. That's my scene for the measure of a sound system. I'm really really glad I decided to give this sound bar a shot. I cannot recommend it enough. I've honestly never heard a sound bar that stacks up to this. It sounds so insanely like 5.1. This completely changed my opinion of sound bars, and I won't be so quick to dismiss them in the future. Even if the kid (who I love with all my heart) wasn't in the picture, I'd still be swapping the 5.1 in my bedroom for this soundboard. The subwoofer is louder, and it's nice not having 5 speakers taking up room. This is sooooo much nicer. Best purchase of the year, good sound makes EVERYTHING better!

Sony’s BRAVIA Theater Bar 6 is basically what happens when Japanese minimalism meets “I want my living room to sound like an IMAX, but I also don’t want cables everywhere.” First impression out of the box? Slick. Packaging is not quite Apple-level, but let’s be real—nobody does that voodoo like Apple. Still, Sony absolutely nailed the presentation: everything’s cushioned, scratch-free, and gives off major “yeah, you bought something nice” vibes.

Setup was a breeze. I plugged it into my LG OLED (which is notoriously picky about new friends), and it just worked. No drama, no 12-step HDMI handshake, no random firmware ritual. Swapping inputs and pairing to my iPhone? Easy. For impatient types who just want to watch a movie and not install seventeen apps, it’ll do what you need out of the box. If you like tweaking stuff with the BRAVIA Connect app, that’s there too—maybe I’ll play with it when I run out of movies.

Let’s talk sound: This thing absolutely crushes it with the highs and the lows. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X effects are surprisingly convincing for a bar—missiles explode, rain patters, helicopters swirl. The sub is big enough to rattle your couch, but not your relationship. Dialogue? Center channel is clear, no more guessing what mumble-mode actor is saying.

Where it falls short—like most svelte soundbars—is in the midrange. If you want that “full” audiophile sound, you’ll need to drop serious cash and run wires everywhere (or microwave your house with wireless signals). In my open-concept, high-ceiling living room, the soundbar held its own but didn’t quite fill every corner. In a normal-sized room? I bet it’s perfect.

A few more things I love:

The remote is simple, and honestly, simple remotes should win awards.

Dedicated bass control, which is a godsend for late-night action movies or, you know, when the neighbor’s already mad.

The look: super sleek, no weird angles or disco lights. Just elegant, understated Sony style.

Pro tips: If you want the up-firing Atmos speakers to actually do their thing, don’t shove the bar under your TV—let it live on a console so those soundwaves can bounce. And don’t expect 7.1 “real speaker” magic from a bar, because physics is real.

All in, it’s a beautiful bit of gear, with easy setup and genuinely impressive sound for what it is. Your friends will definitely want one, and if you know what you’re getting (and what it’s not), you’ll be happy you splurged.

To cut to the chase, it is a decent soundbar for a small room, probably overpriced, and the software is terrible.
Now, the longer version...
First of all, I doubt that I'd have shelled out the $650 they are selling this for. I got it because �鶹�� offered it for review through the vine program. In my opinion, the product is probably worth about $350 and I guess the Sony logo adds $300 on top of it :-) It is somewhat overpriced for what you get, but hey it is Sony and for some people reputation and brand name matter.

Second, the current firmware seems a little unstable. I have had to reset the soundbar a couple of times once because it got in to some confused state while trying to do a firmware update and once again because the audio when using Sony's "Sound Field" processing would keep cutting off every few seconds. After the resets, everything worked fine. This is indeed a very new product and hopefully the firmware will improve over time.

Third, the Bravia Connect app is quite a mess. There is no help for the various settings on the app and I had to do a lot of searches online to know what the settings did. Also, why does firmware update have to be so cumbersome. The app says there is a new firmware to update to, but when you click on the button it takes you to some Sony support web page and you have to navigate a few pages to figure out how to update the firmware. I have no idea why the phone app couldn't download the firmware and update the soundbar via bluetooth. You have to download it to a computer, unzip and transfer to a USB storage device, physically connect to the soundbar (which requires taking it off the wall), and do some rain dance to update. It is quite cumbersome and not something a person with less technical skills would be able to. Sony had a lot to learn about usability and user experience.
Last, the sound quality. It actually sounds pretty good. The clarity of the center channel speaker for dialog is excellent. The base out of the box is a bit on the artificially heavy side, but that's adjustable. The channel separation if not bad at all in the 14ft x 14ft small room that I have this installed. Overall sound quality is nice. I have a Sonos Arc and sub in another larger room with a larger TV. The Sonos is clearly better, but it costs quite a bit more than this Sony. It is not a fair comparison. If all you care about is sound quality, then this unit is pretty good for a smaller room, albeit a bit on the expensive side.

I was considering giving this only 3 stars because of how frustrated I am with its software side of things, but I gave it 4 because in the end most people probably don't care about the software and just care about the sound quality. If the price is a bit less and the software improves a lot, then it would be a 5 star. You get the idea.

btw, a good test for Dolby Atmos test is Apple TV+'s Earthsounds, Episode 1. That works as a great testbed for this soundbar and others.
