- Reviewed in Canada on July 6, 2024Verified PurchaseFor reference, I use the HT-S2000 in the primary bedroom, paired with a smart TV which I stream all content from. I also own two other Atmos soundbars, being the Sony HT-Z9F and Samsung HW-Q930B. I would not cross-shop the HT-S2000 to those as they both have the obvious benefits that come from separate subwoofer and surround speakers. However, I have used the HT-Z9F both with and without the surround and subwoofer, and the HT-S2000 is significantly better sounding in that scenario. Just make sure to set up this unit correctly!
Where most reviews miss the mark on this model is that it’s better suited to rooms where you don’t want to add a subwoofer or surround speakers. Both the bass and the sound field from this standalone unit is impressive.
For setup, you must change the Sound Field setting from Sony (default) to Dolby, as I found the Dolby setting gave me the clear and full sound I was hoping for. By contrast, the Sony setting sounded compressed and required higher volume level to hear dialogue. To emphasize how important this setting is, if the only option was the Sony setting, my rating would change from 5 stars to 3 stars and I would not recommend it. There is also a DTS option, but I wasn’t able to test it.
Conclusion: This is a a perfect small room soundbar for watching TV and movies. It is loud and has enough bass to enjoy movies without a subwoofer. The Dolby sound field setting provides clear dialogue and good surround/Atmos decoding without the need for surround speakers. Highly recommended if your use will be similar to mine.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 15, 2023Verified PurchaseThe soundbar is decent, but Holy crap the remote is terrible.
You get a total of six feet of range (about 2 meters) before it can't communicate with the unit anymore.
That's it.
I honestly can't imagine how such a brutal design flaw made it through testing.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2023Verified PurchaseI have owned several budget mid-range soundbars and none of them have been able to do what this one can when it comes to creating a large sound stage from almost any source. The built-in base is extremely good for what it is - it won't shake the room but it gives such a nice depth and dynamic to movie and tv audio. I personally don't care for all of the added nonsense that come with soundbars today (voice assistants, audio streaming platforms, etc). Just give me a simple setup with high quality sound at a reasonable price. I think I may have found the perfect soundbar (for me at least).
You have the option of adding rear surrounds and a subwoofer, but I honestly am not convinced that i need it with this little soundbar.
Well done Sony!

- Reviewed in Canada on June 14, 2023The Sony HT-S2000 Soundbar works very well in tandem with my my Sony X900H HDTV, whereas other soundbars didn't play as nicely with my SONY branded TV. I have been quite happy with this soundbar, but sound quality can be quite subjective. Following is my PROS and CONS review:
PROS:
Immersive Audio: The Sony HT-S2000 features 3.1-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound, which has the potential of a truly immersive audio experience. Any single soundbar will have difficulty getting the most out of these sound formats but the HT-S2000 does quite a good job considering this.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Support: The inclusion of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support ensures compatibility with the latest audio formats. These technologies provide a three-dimensional sound experience by adding height and depth to the audio, resulting in a more realistic and captivating audio environment. Once again, these formats would work better with extra individual speakers and separate subwoofer, but the HT-S2000 does quite an admirable job on its own.
Bluetooth Connectivity: With built-in Bluetooth technology, this soundbar allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth-enabled devices. It offers convenient playback options and enables you to enjoy your favourite music or podcasts without the hassle of wires. Sound quality was excellent using the Sony HT-S2000 Bluetooth connection with music streaming apps!
Sleek/Esthetically Pleasing Design: The Sony HT-S2000 features a sleek and minimalist design that can seamlessly blend with various home decor styles. The slim profile and compact size make it suitable for both wall-mounting and placement on a TV stand, ensuring versatility in installation options. It fit perfectly underneath my SONY X900H Bravia TVs bottom bezel so there was no blockage of the screen.
CONS:
Limited Channel Configuration: While the HT-S2000 offers a 3.1-channel configuration, it may not provide the same level of immersion as systems with more speakers. It lacks rear speakers and a separate subwoofer, which can limit the surround sound experience. If you desire a more comprehensive surround sound setup, you may need to purchase the optional subwoofers (SA-SW3 and SA-SW5) and/or the rear speaker set (SA-RS3S).
Expensive: Compared to some other soundbars on the market, the Sony HT-S2000 is relatively expensive. While it offers excellent audio quality and features, the higher price point may be a barrier for those looking for more affordable options.
Limited Connectivity Options: Although the HT-S2000 offers Bluetooth connectivity, it lacks other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi or HDMI inputs. This limitation can be restrictive if you have multiple devices to connect or if you prefer a more versatile audio setup. Audio quality is also improved with Wi-Fi connectivity vs. Bluetooth.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 15, 2023I had high expectations for this soundbar, unfortunately it didn't live up to them.
Connecting via eARC, optical audio, and bluetooth all worked flawlessly. For the purposes of comparing to my current soundbars+subs, I used eARC for the majority of my testing.
The HT-S2000 sounded good, but not mind blowing. I used the same show preview on Netflix to compare this to my existing soundbar+sub. I downloaded the app and played with every setting I could get into, and could notice subtle changes in voices, music, background sounds, etc with each one. Unfortunately none of them quite sounded right to me. After testing I ended up keeping my existing soundbar+sub hooked up instead of the HT-S2000.
It's hard to describe, but in order to get certain things to sound good with the Sony other things would suffer whereas my existing bar+sub was middle of the road with everything all at once. I think with the optional rear speakers and a sub the Sony would absolutely blow away my existing setup, but without them it's just not worth that price tag to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound, … Disappointing Remote and Custom Controls… But Great Sound!
Verified PurchaseWhat great sound! This Sony sound bar is quite impressive when paired with my Sony tv. The set up was a snap as I used hdmi 3 on my tv, the arc connection. Next I paired it using -blue tooth- with my phone for music. I listen to 鶹 music and use an I phone. I mention the I phone as the Sony OS is android (google tv) and some might think Apple users could have issues, not so in my case. Furthermore, I do not use any of the google settings on the Sony platform and instead run my tv through a Roku 4k stick, and great wifi, which is how the sound-bar operates as well. If you have a Sony tv, the integration will be automatic and work well. I did have some disappointment in the remote that came with the sound bar. Not much customization possible and even digging deep into the audio settings and sound field options on the tv there still was no way to increase or decrease treble, very minimal bass control, and no equalizer at all. Having said all of that, I am still loving my purchase and very, very pleased with the sound from both the hdmi connection and the bluetooth on my new sound bar. The remote is very basic, but works. I ended up putting an app on my phone as the little light on the front of the bar was on bright all the time. I knew there had to be a setting- it is called dimmer, and for some reason the remote that comes with the sound bar is missing that setting! The app I put on my phone is available using a QR code on the quick set up paper, it is called “Home Entertainment” and has the dimmer setting buried within the settings options. I also found other remotes from Sony that had the dimmer button included and have ordered a cpl to try. I am not wanting to grab my phone and open an app each time I watch tv- and the light will come back on (I turned it completely off) if you power off your equipment - I said power off, not turn off. Turning off the tv and bar leaves them in a ready state and they pop right back on… Powering off is what I do each night at the surge protector, or if I am to be away for the day.
Overall this is a finely tuned piece of sound equipment that can more than stand alone as a tv bar, or bluetooth music streamer. The sound will surprise most, with NO satellite speakers of any kind needed. It is possible to add on, but for me this sound bar is very impressive and provides much better sound than the tv alone while giving me an option to bluetooth any number of music options from phone, tablet, or Alexa device. The bass is good, the depth of sound is very good and I plan to use it daily. You will fall in love with the sound as I have, and this price for “Sony sound” is an excellent bargain in my opinion… PS, if you ever carried a Walkman, you know exactly what I mean! Update: I did purchase a compatible remote w/ the “dimmer “ control, worked immediately- the light now stays off, have not had to change the setting since… purchased right here for a very low price, I actually ordered two different models to try and they both worked! Love my Sony sound!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for the price range
Verified PurchaseYou need to know what you are buying. This sound bar is intended for bedrooms and small to medium sized living rooms. It does improve the sound of any tv but it wont be better than a real home theater setup nor more expensive sound bars. I'm using the bar alone without sattelite speakers and subwoofer and I found the sound quit nice, plenty of bass for a bar alone. Remote control is nice, small, responsive, and I like the voice function. The sound bar takes one to two seconds to engage the sound, it does not bother me but I can understand why others would complain about this weird behavior. Five stars compared to others in the same price range. Just watched Rogue One Star Wars (Disney +) and was really impressed with this upgrade. Remember to change your audio tv settings to passthrough to enjoy dolby atmos.
