About this item
- G Lens wide-angle 15mm APS-C prime offers dynamic perspectives, outstanding image quality, large F1.4 aperture as well as fast, precise, quiet AF ideal for still and video content creators.
- The small size and low weight of the lens makes it a perfect match for compact APS-C as well as Super35 E-mount cameras. Also thanks to a refined internal focus mechanism, the lens’s length remains constant while focusing for ideal balance and handling. You can move in close to the subject, right down to the lens’s minimum focusing distance, and shoot movies or stills without being restricted by changing lens length.
- Two linear motors give this large-aperture lens impressively fast, precise autofocus and tracking performance for both stills and movies. AF and tracking are so responsive that the full speed potential of the camera in use can be utilized so that even fast or erratically moving subjects can be reliably captured.
- An aperture ring provides intuitive control plus the fast response required for professional applications. It also includes a switch that turns the aperture click stops on or off – ON for tactile feedback when shooting stills or OFF for seamless, silent control when shooting movies.
- State-of-the-art lens technology packed into this remarkable large-aperture wide-angle lens reduces unwanted focus breathing and angle of view shifts when focusing. It also supports the breathing compensation function in compatible alpha cameras, further reducing unwanted angle of view shifts during focusing for smooth, high-quality movie footage.

Spectacular rendering and bokeh in a wide F1.4 G Lens

With great G Lens rendering and expressive F1.4 bokeh, this 15-mm (35-mm full-frame equivalent: 22.5-mm) wide-angle prime lens for APS-C bodies delivers dynamic perspectives. Whether shooting stills or movies, superb operability and AF performance combine with compact, lightweight portability for multifaceted versatility.
FEATURES
Large-aperture 15-mm F1.4 G Lens
With stunning G Lens rendering and expressive F1.4 bokeh, this 15-mm wide-angle prime lens for APS-C bodies can deliver dynamic perspectives and expression. In a compact lens that weighs just 7.8 oz (219 grams) you get outstanding resolution right out to the image edges, with minimal focus breathing when shooting movies.
Sony lens technology cancels aberration
An innovative optical design that includes three aspherical elements corrects field curvature and aberration for outstanding resolution throughout the lens’s wide 15-mm field of view. One ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element and one Super ED glass element further suppress chromatic aberration and effectively reduce peripheral colour fringing.
Breathtaking close-up bokeh
This lens’s 0.17-m minimum manual focus (0.2 m when using AF) and 0.15x maximum magnification (0.12x when using AF) let you get close to the subject while producing beautiful bokeh. Shoot close-up subjects against deep background bokeh for truly memorable images. Impressive close-up capability is an advantage for movies as well as stills.
FEATURES
Two linear motors for amazing AF
Two linear motors deliver fast, precise AF with superb tracking that maximizes camera-body performance to capture decisive moments in street snaps and similar subjects. Fast, precise, quiet AF with superb tracking is a huge advantage for movies as well as stills.
Natural, linear manual focus response
For a professional manual focusing feel and response, Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle manual control. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise when shooting stills and movies.
Compact and lightweight design
A design that maximizes the benefits of aspherical elements and the short mirrorless flange back distance delivers stunning optical performance in an APS-C format lens that is only 2.62 x 2.74 in (66.6 x 69.5 mm) and weighs only 7.8 oz (219 g). A great choice for wide-angle landscapes, architecture, interiors and snapshots in general.
FEATURES
Stable movies with minimal breathing
State-of-the-art lens technology packed into this remarkable large-aperture ultra-wide lens reduces focus breathing2 and angle-of-view shifts when focusing to facilitate high-quality movie recording and smooth, refined expression.
Customizable focus hold button
The focus hold button is customizable from the camera menu. Assign a function you use frequently such as Focus Magnifier, for example, then the right-hand fingers holding the camera can maintain a stable grip while the left thumb turns focus magnification on or off.
Switchable aperture ring click stops
An aperture ring provides intuitive control plus the fast response required for professional applications. It also includes a switch that turns the aperture click stops on or off: ON for tactile feedback when shooting stills, or OFF for seamless, silent control when shooting movies.
FEATURES
Easy manual/auto focus switching
The manual/auto focus mode switch enables instant switching between manual and auto focus modes, allowing instant response to changing shooting situations and focusing needs.
Dust- and moisture-resistant design
A dust- and moisture-resistant design provides extra reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions.
Smooth handling for movie shooting
Thanks to a refined internal focus mechanism, the lens’s length remains constant while focusing for ideal balance and handling. Consistent balance plus small size and low weight also make gimbal balancing easy.

- Reviewed in Canada on March 15, 2024Verified PurchasePaired with an FX30, making it great for low light settings.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2023Verified PurchaseThe 15mm is wide enough to see the background and yourself if you are planning to use it as a sit-and-talk lens in a studio. It is wide enough for real estate, and landscape photography/videography. The f1.8 provides a blurry background to emphasize the subject with a crystal-clear image. Sadly, it is not wide enough to vlog with the 15mm. You can still vlog with it but I had to straighten up my arm completely to fit my head in the frame. This lens is equivalent to a 22.5mm full frame. There is no image stabilization, but it is small, light and compact enough to use with a small gimbal. The material is plastic it feels less premium compare to other sony G lens like the 18-105mm f4 and it is pricey. Overall it is a great purchase for gimbal work. Otherwise, it is better to get the sigma 16mm for less $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars good quality, great low light prime lens, it's a keeper
Verified PurchaseOverall, pretty happy with this purchase. I was a little skeptical at first because when you look at the lens, it's pretty small, unlike other fast prime lenses which you see that they have large lenses that can let a lot of light through. But i guess for the size of the sensor on my A6500 it's plenty good enough. The price is pretty steep for a single wide angle prime lens, this lens at 15mm x 1.5 is at 22-23mm normally so wider then a 35mm but not super wide angle which like most bloggers would say is what they like. As i seen other reviews, it works well as an all around lens to go sight seeing with, you can capture wider scenery, selfies with background that doesn't get cut off, then as weather turns or night approaches, it works well in low light situations which my other g zoom lenses couldn't do at f/4 easily. So i have a zoom 18-105 G, 55-210 i think, and a 10-18 wide angle, but none are great a very low light settings (hand held), the 15mm i held in a pre-dawn dark room and took some snaps like it was mid-day hand held with no blur at all. Clarity is good at edges. When ordering it always says 1 or 2 left, but as soon as i ordered it, they sold it again now with included uv filter (protector). Dang, i wish they sent me one for free, just a day late. Oh well, my lens set is complete for what i need it for, mainly amateur sight seeing and travel photography, now that i have a better low light lens, can capture some of those fireworks and other dark/light night city scenery a lot better then my all in one zooms and can use this for vlogging if i ever get into that. Comes with a lens hood, aperture adjustment can set click or smooth when setting via the ring, and you can select auto or manual focus as well, so it's a nice lens and looks quality overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down best APS-C vlogging lens. Period. Incredible!
Verified PurchaseI've had a handful of lenses for Sony cameras; the ZV-E10 and FX30.
My first vlogging lens was the Sony 11mm f1.8 and it was a solid lens overall, but I found it to be too wide and lacking in other features.
This 15mm G Master on the other hand? Hands down winner!
The focal distance is great, about as perfect as one can expect, for vlogging. Even with active steady shot enabled, you're able to manage a decent shot handheld or with a handheld tripod. Speaking of handheld, this is light and fairly easily portable.
Key features that put this lens above others, both competing brands and Sony lenses, are the f1.4 for that creamy bokeh, and the option of the manual aperture ring. Being able to quickly twist and adjust exposure while you're on the go is amazing. I think this feature is a must have for me going forward.
If you're on the fence with this one, just buy it. You're going to love it. Plus, it can be had used/open box at a highly competitive price.
