Solarmeter’s new Model 6.5R Reptile UV Index Meter updates our legendary original Model 6.5 UV Index Meter with attractive, informative graphics specifically designed for reptile husbandry. Many scientists and breeders worldwide rely on the original Model 6.5 UV Index Meter, so the new Model 6.5R is unchanged operationally or in terms of specifications from the original. We just made this meter easier for reptile owners to use by updating the graphics with the latest scientific research about proper UV dosages for reptiles. Specifically, the Ferguson Zone chart at the top of the meter provides the user with an instant, accurate reference for the meter’s UVI readout. To operate, press and hold push-button switch on face of unit. Aim sensor window in top panel of meter directly at UV source. Note reading on LCD and record if desired. Battery operation voltage is 9V down to 6.5V. Below 6.5V the LCD numbers will begin to dim, indicating the need for battery replacement. Under "typical" service load, the battery should last approximately 2 years.

    Works great, simple to use, item is exactly as pictured! A UVB reader is extremely important if you keep reptiles and they have UVB lighting! For me personally I own 14 different types of herps and quite a few of them have UVB lighting, so investing in this tool, will ensure that I save money in the long run! The reason being is I will know exactly how much or how little UVB the lights are producing, which will inturn ensure that I am not replacing UVB lights prematurely! (As if you know anything about keeping reptiles UVB lights are not cheap!)

    Very handy tool to have especially if you own a reptile where UVI index needs to be monitored. I own a bearded dragon and was curious to see what level of UVI was being outputted by the UVB bulb I have. Bearded dragons need a level of at least 3.0 to process their calcium and convert it to D3. By using the solar meter I was able to adjust my UVB tube above my tank so that my bearded dragon is receiving an output of at least 3.5. Also good to measure the degradation of UVB output. Easy to use just aim and press the button. They send you a graph with it as well so you can understand the different levels of UVB suggested for your reptile species. Definitely worth the money if you are serious about the health and well being of your reptile.

    I was hesitant cause of the price, but decided to go ahead and purchase it after watching many reviews. Although it’s expensive it was definitely worth getting. I didn’t like the idea of guessing the level of UV my gecko was getting especially because my UV sits on top of the mesh top. It also offers a lot of peace of mind as I can regularly check the UV from the bulb to make sure it is still working correctly and outputting the correct amount of UV.

    Within minutes of removing this from the packaging and checking my bearded dragons basking area I received a ride awakening at how low the UV index was!

    Had a 160w solar-glow mvb bulb sitting on the screen over the basking area and although I had achieved the perfect basking temperature I was not providing enough UV exposure !

    So on as I removed the screen and mounted the fixture from a hangar my beardy immediately responded by ferociously chowing down on salad and squash which he wouldn't touch before, that's no coincidence.

    Invest in this, it's cheaper than the vet bills I read about on bearded dragon forums!

    I have two blue tongue skinks with UVB. Many people only get solarmeters if they have a high number of animals but I have already found it worth it with only two. I was planning on discarding a bulb because it had reached the end of the recommended life but my solarmeter proved it was still good!

    Lange habe ich überlegt, weil es für mich auch nicht wenig Geld ist. Aber ich habe es mir dann doch gekauft. Zu meinem Erschrecken musste ich feststellen, dass die Lampen bei meinen Echsen, die das UV Licht besonders benötigen, so gut wie keine Wirkung mehr haben, wer weiß wie lange schon nicht mehr.

    Jetzt konnte ich mal alles durchmessen und durfte/musste somit 2 neue Strahler kaufen.
    Dank diesem Gerät kann ich nun zeitig reagieren und entsorge keine Lampen mehr unnötig früh.

    280€ sind für viele eine Menge Geld, aber im besten Fall hat man das Gerät auf ewig und wenn ich jetzt alle meine UV Lampen auf Verdacht getauscht hätte, wären es weit über 300€ geworden.
    Jetzt sind es "nur" 80€ für die beiden Strahler.
    Also hat sich das Messgerät bereits jetzt schon bezahlt gemacht.
