5.0 out of 5 stars Works Perfectly and Adds Versatility!
Verified PurchaseThis adapter works exactly as intended and is an excellent option for those using the a7S III instead of the FX3. It eliminates the need to purchase the a7S III-specific priority mic, which I find less stable and somewhat flimsy compared to the FX3's XLR setup.
When paired with a SmallRig cage, this adapter fits perfectly and keeps everything secure and stable. The best part? You get the same XLR mic setup that works seamlessly with both the FX3 and a7S III, adding incredible versatility to your gear.
Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a reliable and stable solution!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect to attach FX3 audio handle to Sony A7SIII
Verified PurchaseI recently found out that you could attach the FX3 / FX30 audio interface handle (Sony XLR-H1) to other Sony mirrorless cameras, simply by adding a SmallRig cage and this little part.
I've gotta say, it works FLAWLESSLY right into the hot shoe, providing clean audio with no need for any cables or converters.
Combined with the SmallRig rail kit to make the mount even more secure, and I've got the perfect XLR audio setup now. No more running the Zoom F3 with annoying battery changes -- this thing will last forever as long as I have Sony batteries on it.
It also appears it can be run from a Micro USB cable (assuming it reduces battery draw from camera), though I haven't tested that functionality out yet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Revised review: Works not-so-great with half-cage on my A7IV
Verified PurchaseRevised review (original is below): Turns out this is a great idea that just missed being implemented perfectly. Overall, it's well designed. The problem lies in the location of the 3/8" center main mounting hole. When adapter plate is firmly snugged down, the top handle is about 1mm shy of consistently hitting the hot shoe contacts, rendering it unusable most of the time, and unpredictable in properly connecting. The mounting hole needs to be elongated about 1-2mm so there's a tiny bit of room to adjust for individual fit. I'm using this with a SmallRig half cage made specifically for the A7iv, so there's no reason for it not to fit. The last two shoots, I've been unable to get it to connect, and have had to go to my backup FX30 (I even swapped top handles between the two cameras, too - no luck there) in order to complete the shoot. That extended the shoot and made me look bad in front of the client. Subtracting two stars from my review (sorry, SmallRig.)
Original review: This little piece made it possible for me to add an FX30 compatible XLR top handle to my A7IV. I already had a Small Rig half cage on the A7IV and this adapter is a perfect fit. The only thing I've noticed is that there can be a little play in mounting the adapter to the cage, so the XLR top handle doesn't always slide in quite far enough to engage the contacts, and sometimes requires a little wiggling to get them working. After assembling be sure to confirm the audio coming into the camera is indeed from the top handle, and not from the in-body mics. Top handle is now secure to the camera, and I can hold the camera by the top handle and not worry about breaking the contact mount. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but could be better?
Verified PurchaseThis totally works and I’m grateful to be able to use the audio handle from my FX3 on the a7sIII! It doesn’t feel fair to take away a star from something so valuable and inexpensive that works fine but it isn’t as good of a fit as it is on the FX3. There’s some flex and doesn’t feel 100% solid. Good but not excellent, I do recommend it unless you are moderately hard on your gear. Small Rig I love what you do and thank you for making this part.
