This is yet another great cage from SmallRig. I originally bought one for my Sony a7iv and have fallen in love with the brand ever since. This fits my Insta360 X5 phenomenally, and I love the new versatility it adds to my device. The additional 1/4- 20 mounts and GoPro-type mounts allow me to attach my device in any orientation and anything I need in order to get the perfect shot. Also, it has cold shoe mounts if you need to attach any external mics or lights as well. I also love the kickstand the cage has that allows you keep the lenses off a surface when you go to set it down. It even worse with the lense protectors attached!

Depending on what you are looking for in a case, the fact that this is an all metal design will either be a good thing or a bad thing. I am using my Insta360 X5 on my motorcycle as a dash cam most of the time. The weight this case adds doesn't negatively affect me in any way. I feel like it being metal is a good thing because it is even more solid and protective. If you are going to use the camera and case on any hand held device like a gimbal or selfie stick, the added weight might be a bad thing. I have a plastic case for times when I am going to be handholding the case and camera.

The case itself is well made, is very solid, and all of the holes/ports are exactly where you would expect them to be.

This beautifully machined and finished aluminum alloy cage is an industrial work of art in its own right. Slip the Insta360 X5 in through the hinged top, screw the top down and the cage becomes an exoskeleton for the camera, protecting it from bumps and jostles.

All openings on the camera are easily accessible.

A big reason why I wanted this cage is that there is a cold shoe on either side, directly across from other. I like the symmetry of that compared to other cages that either have only one cold shoe or have them on top and side.

This arrangement will allow me to mount thin video lights on either side for an approximation of 360 degree lighting. I won't to see how it works with night scenes during summer fairs and festivals. It's an itch I've been wanting to scratch for a long time.

There is also a 1/4-20 tripod screw socket on one side. There is also a hinged top.

At the bottom, there's another 1/4-20 and a folding two prong GoPro style mount.

Finally, there's a fitted soft silicone lens cap that slides over the frame to cover and protect the lenses.

I've tried several X5 cages and this one is the keeper.
