- Reviewed in Canada on February 28, 2021Verified PurchaseI'll begin the review with the short and sweet. This brand is a perfect way to dip your toes into alcohol markers, to see if you like how they handle and if they work for your purposes. I own the skin-tone set, as well as the 130 brush/chisel tip set.
What I like / The pros:
As a beginner to alcohol markers, I can say that these ones are very easy to use- both for basic colouring as well as shading and layering.
The lighter colours can be layered over darker colours as a highlight, and the darker colours are beautiful for shading and don't feather with your basic multi-media sketch pads.
The brush tip is very smooth and comfortable to use, and so long as you take your time while applying the colour it all dries into an even tone with no streaking. As well, the brush tip is firm enough that you won't have accidents with any unintended 'flicking' if you're colouring sharp corners or steep curves, saving you from accidents that might mess up your drawings or colouring pages.
The colour dries almost immediately once applied.
This set also has a really great assortment of fair, medium, and dark skin tones. Lots of yellow, brown, and pink-type tones. It's a great starter pack that will give you everything you'll need to start a good collection.
What could use some work / The cons:
The chisel tips seem to be unevenly cut, and I struggle to draw a full line without inconsistencies because there seems to be dips or odd shaping in the tips. From what I've experienced, you need to press a bit and be quite careful to avoid your lines of colour looking strange because of these gaps.
The colours, when applied, don't match up well to the colours presented on the caps where tone is concerned (they seem to apply darker or lighter, not necessarily spot on to the cap colour). Not a big gripe at all, just be sure to swatch your markers on the paper you use most to get an idea of what each colour applies like before diving into a drawing or colouring book.
If you go about colouring too quickly, the colour applies pretty dry or sheer with some markers- making the application streaky and very hard to cover up once the marker has dried.
On the other hand, if you go too slowly the marker applies quite heavy and dark, making the finished application look splotchy and again, hard to cover up.
The two above points may be due to the paper I use, somewhat fibrous multi-media art paper, so it might be worth investing in marker pads or cardstock to avoid dry application or over-saturation. Given how popular multi-media paper is though, I wanted to mention it for anyone else that uses it as well. It's not a huge issue at all, just good to know.
Overall I definitely rate these markers at a solid 5/5, you cannot go wrong with the quality and value overall. They work beautifully, and are perfect for beginners and a great starter for anyone debating trying out higher end alcohol-markers in the future.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 25, 2022Verified PurchaseMy daughter loves these markers and raves about the quality. She owns MANY Ohuhu marker sets from the watercolor brush pens to brush and chisel sketch and some monstrous set I've forgotten the name of. She prefers the Ohuhu over the Copic markers, which she says dried out too fast.
You've seen other reviews with folks commenting on the Ohuhu customer service, and they're not wrong. In one of the sets purchased one of the markers arrived with a loose lid, the marker dried out. Ohuhu went above and beyond to make it right.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 4, 2022Verified PurchaseI've been working with India ink for a while, and have always had issues with lighter skin tones and other light colours, especially those requiring blending. I decided to try alcohol ink, but wasn't about to spend a small fortune on copic markers when all the reviews seem to view Ohuhu as nearly as good and for a fraction of the price. So far, they have absolutely lived up to the expectations. The colours saturate beautifully and the blending is practically seamless. I'm not sure if the uber expensive pens are nicer, but as an amateur with inking, these ones have been great for me.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 22, 2024Verified PurchaseI colour stamped images for design teams and wasn’t able to find refills for some of my copics. I tried these and plan to retire my copic collection as these are just as good and price wise much better.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 10, 2025Verified PurchaseWish there was more variety between tones but it’s decent as a first set of skin tones.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 1, 2024Verified PurchaseOhuhu products never fail to amaze me! I love them, the markers perform beautifully. Worth the money!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 1, 2025Verified PurchaseThese markers are great! So many different colours to choose from. Especially beautiful browns! And the broad tip is great for colouring large areas! Only thing that sucks is they’re already running dry for me. :( It’s only been 5 months since I purchased them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality you can enjoy without breaking the bank
Verified PurchaseI use my meager collection of Copic Sketch and Ciao markers for my more serious drawing and illustrations but have found myself using them A LOT in my amazing coloring book collection when I just need to chill. This is not a cost effective thing to do at $5-$8 a pop! So, I decided I should try to find some much less expensive markers that might still give me the same satisfaction as the Copics do with their magical ink blending and saturation on the paper. I'm really glad I gave these Ohuhu markers a try!
The Ohuhu inks are nice and sheer for layering and building form with light and shadows. You can keep the colors sheer by moving the brush nib slowly enough that one pass or layer covers the area without streaking or splotching. I find that the third layer of ink is about as dark/saturated as it will get for many of the colors, especially those that start out more saturated to begin with, but that is more of a progression than I've gotten with another inexpensive brand I tried out. To me, that ink layering/buildability and the brush nib quality are the most pivotal details of an alcohol marker. That being said, let's look at the brush nib.
In my opinion, the brush nib is the ultimate vehicle for the magical liquid known as alcohol ink. The more repeatable (over and over) flexibility you can build into that brush while maintaing a perfect point for tiny details, the more creative you the artist can be and the more happy and in control you will be. The brush should allow you to lay down wide wet swaths of ink on half a page and still turn right around and put a teensy pink dot on a mouse's tiny twitching cartoon nose if you want to. This keeps you free to put the exact amount of ink exactly where you want it and never where you don't. Now, the brush nibs on the Ohuhu are pretty stiff when compared to Copics and a couple other higher dollar brands, which is a bit disappointing for sure, but is not at all unexpected at this excellent price point. I am curious to see how long I can keep them from fraying. I am pretty careful with "my precious" markers and my Copics and even my Prismacolors have NEVER frayed even after I illustrated an entire 32 page book with full-bleed spreads. These Ohuhu nibs seem like they are felt without the flexible core or thin foamlike overlay that Copics and Prismacolors have. I have found this same Copic feel/type of construction on the Art-n-Fly marker nibs, which is amazing, but they don't have the same barrel feel, variety of colors available, or number of pen caps that actually color match the 1-layer ink swatches that these Ohuhus do. I'm very pleased with the inks, color variety, and various tones in this Skin Tone set. For the money they seem like great quality for hobby coloring. I will be trying these out on some drawings as well. Using them on ultra-smooth marker paper will extend the nib life for sure, as will the bonus of the nibs being reversible. This is excellent engineering foresight for a company that wants to keep costs down while keeping the quality as high as possible.
I am overall very happy I listened to the hype on YouTube and in 鶹 reviews about this Ohuhu brand. I look forward to seeing the longevity of their brush nibs as well as seeing where the company chooses to take us with its future creative-centric products. It's refreshing and exciting to find a company with an eye on it's bottom line that aims to match that up with my bottom dollar and creative needs. I can't wait to snap up their pastel set when it's available again.
Thanks Ohuhu, and Cheers to you, fellow inkers!
