- Reviewed in Canada on May 25, 2016Verified PurchaseThis is a must read in my opinion for all parents who want to simplify their children's lives and their own. I love the way the author writes and I actually feel my own pace slow down just reading the book. We have implemented many of the suggested strategies (although we were not an out of control busy family at all!) and the change is so real and palpable! This book is a keeper and I will revisit it many times I am sure.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 3, 2019Verified PurchaseWhen I purchased this book, I thought it'd give me suggestions on how to simplify the number of belongings (toys, clothing, books) etc. However, I'm getting much more than that. The book goes above and beyond and provides gentle suggestions on how to simplify many aspects of parenting (simplying kid's day by having a rhythm, creating a theme for family meals and MUCH MORE). It is truly a transformational book! I feel at peace reading this book and am already in the process of implementing many of its practical suggestions. If I could only read one parenting book, this would be it!
- Reviewed in Canada on February 22, 2015Verified PurchaseVery interesting and thought provoking. A bit wordy and repetitive. I will no doubt review the summary and suggestions in this book many times. I plan to declutter my and my families life. True kind and necessary is Excellent advice

Is recommend this book to new parents and preparents. And parents struggling to find balance and connection in their lives with their children.
A must read.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 5, 2014Verified PurchaseThis was exactly the type of book I was looking for when I started my search. it was written in plain english (no big doctor words or studies to try and understand) has plenty of examples of how and why this works. Teaches us how to start simplifying a cluttered house in steps so that we, as parents, can better assist our children by providing them with quality over quantity and a heavy does of our own time and respect.
I would put it in my basket of books that every parent should read!
- Reviewed in Canada on February 26, 2020Verified PurchaseThis is a really excellent guide for parents who wish to simplify their family life. I highly recommend it for new parents through 5th-6th grade...or even beyond! It works in four main domains of family life: environment, rhythm, filtering the adult world and schedules.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 16, 2024Verified PurchaseThis book has changed my life and definitely has made me a better parent. Would recommend to anyone with littles.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 3, 2014Verified PurchaseAlthough I was already doing most of what the author suggests, like unplugging as much as possible and limiting toys, it was a boost to see what I'm trying to do in print. His recommendations made me feel less crazy for not participating in the wider culture...following along with the myriad activities, mountain of character driven toys, all sorts of tv and screen time etc. It's not easy doing it differently from the majority, but this book is giving me the confidence to continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars dieses Buch entspannt und hilft!
Kein blabla, sondern viele Alltagstipps, Fallbeispiele, Erklärungen,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful
Verified PurchaseAlthough the book could definitely be shorter because everything revolves around one idea it provides insights in some aspects of everyday life that are quite interesting. I have quite liked the author's analysis of sports and martial arts versus free play and a little section where he talks about the transitions between activities and how to handle them, which always turn out to be the most complicated.
It's an easy reading anwyway. It hasn't taken much of my time and I have got some interesting ideas from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC BOOK
Verified PurchaseThis is a wonderful book about practical measures you can take to reclaim the peaceful simplicity of childhood. Whilst we were not overwhelmed by the vast number of toys some children have, I still managed to do a clearout and found it therapeutic and liberating to get rid of stuff. I have also been amazed at how something as simple as a menu plan has made a difference to my child who seems to revel in knowing that 'tonight is pasta/rice/chilli night; as the author points out, children don't see this as boring, they see it as a practical example of security. I would urge you to read this book - it is a real investment of your time and written in such a friendly, gentle manner with real-life examples of how quickly and simply you can make lasting changes.
