- Reviewed in Canada on April 14, 2024Verified PurchaseI like everything about the performance, design and quality of this saw. It is a bit more expensive than the low end ones but worth every penny.
The one thing that the manufacturer could do better in the user guide is explain that this is a pull-only saw and that pushing to cut your wood can bend your blade. Pulling takes less effort anyway and the user should never push, even if the blade gets stuck.
The cutting ability of this saw is outstanding. The blade sharpness is first rate. The handle is comfortable to hold with good grip. The locking feature is solid.
It takes only a few pull strokes to get through most branches and trees in the 1 to 2 inch diameter and a half dozen for things in the 3 to 5 inch.
I am not totally surprised by this because I purchased their pocket-boy model about 15 years ago and always had it in my ATV and hunting pack to cut trees and branches. That saw is still cutting as well as the day I bought it and it has done a lot of cutting.
I am so glad I added this bigger saw to my collection. It is easier to cut logs and trees in the 5 to 8 inch diameter than the pocketboy so I use it to clear fallen trees in the ATV trails while accessing the cabin or hunting.
The value is totally worth it. Add this to your bushcraft tool kit and you will not regret it.

- Reviewed in Canada on November 23, 2024Verified PurchaseGreat size to carry and cuts beautifully.
It’s not a huge saw but can handle 4-6” diameter limbs and camp wood NP. I’m in the arborist business and is a great side hand saw.
Blade at this length will not buckle and is replaceable if something does happen.
Solid product!!!

- Reviewed in Canada on March 12, 2024Verified PurchaseOwned a silky gomboy before but it was a straight blade. This one with the curved blade cuts nicer and faster. Definitely won't be going back and well worth the money. Cuts 4-5inch branches within 5s.
Only thing is, wish the saw holder was better quality, find the plastic clip difficult to close and doesn't fit the saw particularly well.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 14, 2024Verified PurchaseSaw is great. The sheath is horrible, they need new design for that. Will break or come off. Can not be trusted.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 16, 2025Verified PurchaseJust wow, cuts like hell, super light.
Bent it accidentally during a couple cuts and the blade kept it's straightness. Still super sharp after multiple uses. Did soft and Hardwoods. Still have to try bone but I am quite sure it will be as awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars To remove belt loop, press with thumb first, then use index finger
Verified PurchaseBELT RELEASE: To easily remove the black belt loop, first press the middle of the loop with your thumb, then simultaneously use your index finder to disengage the clasp at the top (see photos). You can place your thumb almost anywhere along the loop and this technique will work but pressing approximately 2 centimeters down from the hole in the belt loop seems to work best. Unclasping the belt loop is not intuitive, so I wish they had included some instructions...a bit frustrating if you don't know how to do it.
HANDLE GRIP: The grip smells like cardboard or particle board and even though it looks smooth, and you might expect it to feel slick, it is quite grippy and has a very good grip texture, maybe even better than rubber. I was surprised.
OVAL HOLE IN THE BLADE: The oval hole in the top of the blade near the spine appears to be a thumb-grip, where you can pinch to release the blade. If you oil your blade or put a bee's wax/mineral oil mixture on the blade, the blade will be slippery and difficult to unfold unless you use the oval hole as a grasping point.
SAW FITS CASE ONLY PIVOT POINT DOWN: The saw case is designed so that you can only insert the saw pivot point first (or metal end first, when closed).
FOAM TO STOP RATTLE: The saw does rattle in the case when closed. I cut a strip of foam, 6 inches long by 3/4th of an inch wide by ¼ of an inch thick (15 centimeters long x 2 centimeters wide x 7 millimeters thick) and placed it in the hinged lid. When I close the lid, there is absolutely no rattle at all. (see photos).
NO LOCK ON BLADE (use ranger band): The blade does not lock when closed. However, even when shaking or trying to flick the blade open freehand, the blade does not fly out. If you are concerned though and want to carry your saw out of the plastic case, just use a “ranger band” if you are afraid of the blade coming out in your pack.
Otherwise, the saw seems pretty good. Did not seem as sharp as I expected, but maybe I was cutting some exceptionally hard wood? The main trunk of a 40-year-old dead pear tree? I’ll try some other wood and report later. I have another Silky saw (F180 Silky saw, yellow, fine tooth) and it seemed to glide through the branches of that same tree, approximately 3 inches thick, leaving an exceptionally smooth cut surface.
EDIT Sept 11, 2023 (upgrade from 4 to 5 stars): My mistake, the Silky Outback is VERY sharp...I was using the wrong cut technique so that is why I initially thought it was not as sharp as expected. You need to put 90% of your effort into the PULL stroke and 1% to 10% (if that much) into the push stroke...actually, you should not really try to cut anything on the push stroke, or you might break the blade, just lift off on the push stroke to set up for the next pull stroke. Just focus on the pull stroke and you don't actually have to put any muscle into the pull stroke either. Just let the teeth of the saw make contact with the wood on the pull stroke and allow the teeth to do all the work or do all the "heavy lifting" and then you will realize how sharp and effective the teeth are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Corta la madera como si fuera mantequilla
Verified PurchaseMe encanta, corta la madera como si fuera mantequilla. Bueno, estoy exagerando un poco... :) Es una herramienta sólida y de calidad con la que no da miedo enfrentarse a troncos ya de cierto tamaño.

5.0 out of 5 stars Veramente ottima, consiglio.
