Shikakai: “Fruit for the Hair”

Shikakai, or Acacia Concinna, is a small shrub-like tree, which grows in the warm, dry plains of central India. For centuries the people who have had access to this tree have used its pod-like fruit to clean their hair. At ShiKai, we import this shikakai powder from India and use it as the primary cleansing and sudsing agent in our products. Instead of using it in its raw powdered state however, we make an extract, which preserves the beneficial properties and converts shikakai powder into a water-soluble form. This “ShiKai” extract, as we’ve named it, is used in place of soaps and harsh detergents. Natural!

    The smell is just, OK. I make organic vanilla products so I am spoiled on strong vanilla smells. I really just like how this body wash performs. I used to be a die hard Bath and Body Works fan. I started realizing that their products smell great but they dry my skin out worse than anything. I would have to use lotions and even oil on my skin once a week for my skin to be moisturized and to stay that way unti my next shower. Well, I found a bottle of Shikai body wah on clearance at a grocery store and it was ridiculously cheap. It sat in my cabinet for almost a year. I was running low on bw so I got it out of the cabinet and used it. Delightful. After a week of using it, I don't have to use lotion or oil on my skin. No itchy dry spots. Just clean, soft, and happy skin. I fell in love with it and won't use anything else. It is a little more expensive but I am OK with that because I don't have to buy lotions or oils anymore. I even use this on my face and I am prone to skin issues (breakouts) on my face. That has cleared up too. And I use this on my dog. He has skin issues and has to have soap free shampoo and it costs twice the amount of this body wash. He comes out of the bath soft, clean, and no itching. He smells good too. Vet said it is fine to use it on him as it is gentle and his skin seems to agree with it. Love this stuff. I am an addict now.

    I am allergic to corn. Citric acid is derived from corn. Citric acid was not listed in ingredient list on 鶹 or Kikai's website. I did buy the conditioner and shampoo as well, so far the conditioner does not have ciItric acid. I am still waiting for the shampoo to arrive. I will keep everyone updated.
