The kit comes with plastic and metal end caps. The plastic ones are the correct ones, and fit the 4mm housing. However, the metal caps are too large, and are made for 5mm brake cable housing.

Needed a small 18 inch piece of cable housing after the original housing split down the side while replacing a gear shift cable on the mountain bike. This kit was perfect for just the small piece needed. Included metal and plastic end caps too. Toughest part was cutting through the housing with regular wire cutters. Used lineman pliers to finally cut through. Ran the shifter wire thru the factory cut side to open up the freshly cut end that was a little crushed from cutting. Worked great. Easy to install cable. The housing seems to be a good quality and very tough to cut so it should hold up. Three meters of cable housing, so there is plenty for any future repairs. I recommend this for an inexpensive repair. Got the old mountain bike functional and shifting gears like new.

As others have noted, the metal endcaps don't fit this housing so it's unclear why they included it, unless they also have a combo housing kit that includes both 4mm shifter housing and 5mm brake housing and they have one baggy of end caps for that kit as well as their separate kit.

I used a length of this to replace the rear derailleur housing on a recent re-cabling job I did where the housing was just a tad too short and rubbing on the QR skewer. I used this housing and everything turned out fine. Shifting is smoother throughout the range without the housing snagging slightly and inhibiting shifts.

Some other housing I got recently was packaged poorly with the cable squeezed into an oblong box for some reason, causing some kinking. This one has it right, coiling the cable into a circular shape in the packaging. Kudos.

One quality control issue is that the much of the housing I got has scuffing on the outer plastic layer. One short length even had what looked like raised shavings. I don't know if that especially bad spot was due to rubbing on zip ties when being coiled up for packaging, or if it was that way off the manufacturing line. Another issue was that while one of the ends had squared off and smooth circumferential wires, the other one was a little rough and cut at a slight angle with one of the circumferential wires protruding a little . No big deal, but both ends should be similarly clean.

Miscellaneous:

My housing cutter cut through this stuff without fuss.
