What’s more, it provides a rectilinear 99.1°angle of view, and with the added protection of weather sealing, and a Rear Protector Glass, it allows for lots more versatility. Utilizing the newest Linear Stepping Motor technology, the Samyang 12mm F2.0 AF lens combines a more compact design with improved auto-focus performance. By requiring the movement of only a single focusing group, it delivers especially fast, quiet, and precise focusing, whether shooting stills or videos. The design also allows for close focusing to 7.48” with no change in length or front element rotation. With a bright F2.0 aperture, faster shutter speeds can be achieved for superior astrophotography and low light results. Furthermore, the F2.0 aperture can help create an impressive sense of depth to your daytime images by effectively separating the subject from a pleasing, de-focused background. The optical construction is comprised of twelve elements in ten groups with a new and further advanced version of Ultra Multi Coating (UMC). Besides controlling flare and ghosting, this improved UMC maximizes light transmission, contrast and color accuracy. Thanks to five specialized lens elements (1 Aspherical, 3 Extra-low Dispersion, and 1 Hybrid-Aspherical) aberrations and distortion are minimized to produce sharp, thoroughly corrected imagery. The Samyang 12mm F2.0 AF incorporates a new elegant look with a matte black finish and comfortable micro pattern rubber focusing ring over a durable all-metal housing. And, with its dramatically wide angle of view, this Samyang exciting and attractively priced high-performance model is the lens of choice for landscape, night sky, architecture and interior shooting. For stills I think anyone would be happy, especially for the price.
It's quite sharp in the center and more than serviceable in the corners even wide open, only getting better as you stop down.
I will be keeping the lens, but my main issue is that the autofocus during video pulses when focusing on something close to the lens. Obviously being an ultrawide angle getting close to things can be quite common, depending on your shooting style. Especially when used for close up talking head style shots, livestreaming, etc., where the camera is stationary, you can clearly see the focus pulsing and consequently because of the focus breathing the frame is also constantly zooming in and out a little bit.

I was using the manual 12mm lens by Samyang for a number of years. I’m a big fan of wide angle but needed auto focus for my underwater rig. Initially this lens has a wandering focus with my Sony a6500. I had to get the docking station to update the lens but after I updated it no more wandering focus! You can still see it wandering when you aren’t recording but as soon as you record it stops and keeps focus.

Samyang customer service mentioned misuse of the lens, which I disputed as it is connected to my A6400 only as a web camera that stays in one spot. NO assistance at all from Samyang to get the lens fixed or replaced. Upgrading to a Sony lens now and letting this piece of garbage sit in a corner. Buyer be aware.

I used this lens on a paid gig and halfway through the lens stopped communicating with the camera. I could not change aperture and there is no manual ring. I rebooted the camera (a6600) but it still did it. I turned it off again, took the lens off and rebooted. This time it worked...for a bit then it happened again. I then threw it in my bag and put on my 18-105. I will never trust another Samyang product based on this experience.

This lens is actually a lot of fun. It is plastic constructed but the build feels pretty solid. There's no manual focus switch as far as I can tell but autofocus mostly does fine. Bit of a challenge for night photography though (star stacking) but nothing major. The wide angle of this lens really looks crisp and nice in most shots. The auto focus works well, but it sounds a bit crunchy compared to maybe a better quality lens. Still, over all works well and photos look good for the price.
