Thought it would be brand new
While, the discs work fine, I was expecting a brand new set (especially with the price). As you can see from the photos, this is clearly used. The sellers had wrapped it in plastic to make it seem new but it's not. I am bummed because I was expecting a nice box but the discs, so far, work well.

    This is a much better release than the previous Viz disaster! The video quality is virtually free of artifacts, ghosting and over saturation. Some of the audio in the Japanese track has also been fixed and sounds less tinny. Too bad it couldn’t have been originally released in this condition. Viz needs to take better care of their customers!

    If you are like 99.8% of other people who plan to watch this on a contemporary flat panel display with a widescreen aspect ratio and a resolution of somewhere between 720p-4K, then this Blu-Ray set is great, and the quality of the transfer is improved from the last Viz release. If, however, you fall into the 0.2% or so of the population who are weirdos who prefer to watch classic 4:3 content on its originally intended display; that being a standard definition 15kHz Cathode Ray Tube Television… then this release, like the last, may leave you still slightly disappointed. Despite it being listed as 4:3 aspect ratio on the back of the box, when played back on an actual 4:3 aspect ratio display, the pillarboxing (Black bars on the sides of 4:3 content when displayed on a 16:9 display) is apparently hard coded into the image. This compounds factors of having a 16:9 presentation (creating letter-boxing on a 4:3 display) along with the hard coded pillarboxing, resulting in black bars on all four sides of the image. I understand that at this point in 2022 this is an edge case for consumers of this media, but still, I'm disappointed that this was overlooked for a second time. There are still plenty of Blu-Ray and DVD's being released at the moment that display in a proper 4:3 aspect ratio on a 4:3 display.

    Mucha gente piensa que esto solo es un re-empaque de la versión que lanzó VIZ en el 2014, pero no, esta versión usa la calidad de los Masters oficiales de Toei, cosa que VIZ sí usó, pero solo para Super S y Stars (temporadas 4 - 5), las temporadas 1 - 3 tenía una sobre saturación de color, un elevado contraste, ghosting y, en general, una calidad de imagen mediocre. El problema aquí, y razón por la cual no le doy 5 estrellas, es que, esta edición no incluye nada destacable en cuanto a empaque, no trae la caja de cartón que la versión del 2014 sí, no incluye folleto, solo incluye su slip cover. En cuanto a extras, solo tiene algunas entrevistas adicionales con el casting de doblaje en inglés, y, es todo.
    Espero que también lancen Sailor Moon R y Sailor Moon S usando los masters oficiales, el único problema es que yo compré los 2 Boxsets de Sailor Moon S con la horrible calidad de VIZ de aquel entonces, lo que significaría volver a gastar en la misma temporada para verla en HD.
    Esta presentación es de 6 discos, son los episodios 1 - 46, es decir, la primera temporada completa.

    This set has *substantially*improved picture quality when compared to the first sets of
    2014. If you are a fan for a longtime , you are aware that clear , good copies of this show have been non- existent in America for years . Even the earlier DVDS from the early 2000’s looked like they came from a bad VHS.

    This set is what you have wanted . The digital scans of the series that were used on these sets are over 20 years old and from the original Japanese DVD sets which have been considered the golden standard for a long time. These are not high definition scans from a new source, but digitally processed to upscale the image into a higher resolution . However , this newer remastering from TOEI is SMOOTH, retains it’s filmlike consistency and intentional soft focus, and light film grain. It’s enjoyable to watch and detail is extremely clear .

    Until the sailor moon series is re- scanned from the original film sources , this will be the highest quality North American copy of the series. It looks beautiful and it I finally feel like the series has been presented in a way that shows the best of its artwork. I hope that Viz continues to release the subsequent seasons with improved image quality . This set is magnificent and what collectors and fans have dreamed of for a long time.
