I recently installed the STONVUE 1080P Solar Wireless Backup Camera on my RV, and I couldn’t be more pleased with its performance. This is a fantastic camera!

It has a true resolution of 1920x1080 for full HD (according to the product information) and the image looks really good. There is almost no delay between something moving in the frame and the image reflecting that movement, which is essential for a backup camera.

The application that connects to the camera is called "INSEECam" and it works flawlessly without requiring a login to some random and distant server, meaning that you are not exposing your camera feed to potential misuse by employees or intruders. This is a privacy and security win and it should be standard for all apps/cameras. The application offers an optional remote login, but only for home security cameras; it is not necessary for any feature or function of this camera.

The camera works by creating a host WiFi network with a name like "WFS-000000" which the app connects to. This means that your phone will be off any WiFi network that you normally connect to while you are viewing the feed from the camera, but that is not likely to be much of a problem when you are in a vehicle.

The app is quite full-featured, offering easy ways to capture images and videos and simple buttons to flip the image vertically and horizontally. It also allows you to change the aspect ratio and display a "cursor" with parallel lines to help you back up straight or judge obstructions.

The "Settings" menu allows you to set a password for the camera, to set an auto sleep time, update the firmware, shut down the camera, mute the microphone, and change between NTSC and PAL output.

The camera itself is very well made. The mount contains strong magnets for attaching to a car. There is an unobtrusive solar panel on top for supplementary charging from the sun, and if you keep your car outdoors in a sunny place that may be all the power you need.

The camera requires 5-12vdc for charging, and the charging port is a standard barrel connector (looks like a 5521) with a weather proof screw-on cap. It is rated as IP66 waterproof.

There is only one button on the back. a long (2second) press turns it on and off and four presses resets the camera. This makes for a really easy and intuitive interface.

The removable external WiFi antenna on the back uses a standard SMA connector and it provides the camera with excellent range. I tested at about 100 feet with obstructions and there was no issue with the signal or the image.

The front of the camera has LEDs to show state of charge.

This is a nice and versatile backup camera. It hooks up to your phone using an app so no need to mount a screen. Connection was solid and the picture quality was good. Night vision was not the best but still works well enough to allow you to see what you are doing. The magnet for mounting is good and strong so no worries about the camera falling off. If left exposed to sun the unit charges via the attached solar panel on the camera so it is ready when you need it. You can also charge it via USB port. I really like the versatility of this unit. You can take it anywhere and just stick it to the metal surface on your vehicle, trailer or anyplace you need to get a view of so perfect for backing up your long trailers or boats. It's also great for lining up your trailer hitch when hooking up. Being IP66 waterproof is also really nice as you can submerge it when launching your boat with no issues. Overall I am pleased with this unit and would recommend it.

It set up easy and it's a robust little unit. Magnet is super strong. Range is poor. My camper is 25 feet long and the truck is 20 feet. Camera is about 35 feet away when I'm backing up as the phone is on my dash. It works - sort of. It'll stay connected long enough for me to back in usually. But that's it. I cant use the cam to monitor the back of the camper as I'm driving down the road. It doesn't stay connected.

It'll work as a back up camera but that's it depending on the range.

The viewing options are great. You can adapt it to your preferred view.
My only criticism is that the magnets are the only way of connecting to your car. I would have liked the option of screwing it onto the car so that it doesn’t get stolen when parked up. As it is I need to remove it every time I leave the car. Having it attached would be ideal as it charges using solar and I don’t need to attach it anywhere else. Otherwise a great product

Have reconnected if a back seat passenger does it, so must be on the limit of range. Picture is great. On a four hour trip have to recharge to use on way home. Solar charges slow and won’t keep up with use even on sunny days, is my only complaint. Might get the extension cable for better connection.
