BoodsReviewed in the United States on March 11, 20265.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly the easiest, but good for learning for sure.
I had fun putting a little project together with this.
It's a bit big but that just means its more versatile, right?
The buttons click nicely, powers up fine, No problems with any of the chips or pins,
Was overall easy to set up and a good starting board to fiddle with :)
Overall a good value too
A. SimpsonReviewed in the United States on August 12, 20254.0 out of 5 stars WeAct V2.0
Verified PurchaseI can't say much else about this as I have not tested it yet, however, it should be noted that as per other comments, this appears to be a weact clone V2.0. There are V1.X and 3.X out there as well, I needed a 2.X... will update more once I use it.
Calvin SchubertReviewed in the United States on November 25, 20255.0 out of 5 stars works great!
This dev board has worked great for a few projects. It does everything you'd need from an F411 STM and the type-c connector is a plus
klujReviewed in the United States on April 22, 20254.0 out of 5 stars No documentation included, but good board
Reports itself as being a STM32F411CE WeAct CoreBoard, suggesting pinout should match known pinout of the "WeAct Black Pill" published online. This is good, because the board ships with ZERO documentation of any kind; it's a bare board in an anti-static bag.
Process for flashing to MicroPython via USB on Windows (if you should so want):
1) Set MCU into DFU (boot) mode; hold BOOT0 button and plug in USBC connector (should only have solid red LED at boot, no blue)
2) Get STM32CubeProgrammer from the official ST website (there's a "download as guest" option, but they send the download link via email)
3) Get the **HEX** (not .dfu!) firmware file from the official MicroPython website for the WeAct F411 'blackpill'
4) Install and run CubeProgrammer; marvel at its mid-aughts design choices. Look to the skinny left pane and click the green "download" icon.
5) In the top-left pane ("Download", iirc) of the tab that comes up, click Browse, and point to the hex file you downloaded
6) Tick the box labeled "Verify programming" (this reads back the firmware after you writeit to ensure no corruption)
7) click "Start Programming"
8) Once it finishes, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the board. It should open a File Explorer window when connected; it presents to Windows as a mass storage drive.
ST installs its own USB driver, so installing WinUSB or libusbK via Zadig should not be necessary if using CubeProgrammer. I first tried using df-util, but had no luck with it.
After flashing I get following for available heap (with a 265-line script loaded in): Total=85.55 KB, Free=76.75 KB. For USB compatibility reasons, the CPU clocks in at 96MHz. There's a standard/expected spot on the back of the board for soldering on external SPI flash with SOIC8 footprint if you like. I wasn't able to figure out how to access the internal flash via MicroPython.
If I find any mismatches in pinout from what I expect, I'll update review, but so far, so good.
It's a bit difficult to figure out how to score this one... the board appears to be a competent execution of the WeAct design, so 5/5 there... 3/5 for the lack of documentation, maybe. The board design itself exposes plenty of pins, with versatile options -- there wasn't anything I couldn't do in testing hooking up various I2C/SPI components to it -- so 5/5 there. I don't think ARM Cortex-based MCUs are really competitive anymore given how RISC-V and particularly Espressif chips have exploded onto the MCU marketplace -- ARM chips are relatively expensive, relatively power-hungry for what they do, sorely missing wireless features, and are lacking substantially in CPU power (even with this having an FPU, Espressif chips outclassed it in floating-point math) -- so maybe a 3/5 or 2/5 on the chip itself. I enjoyed my time with it, and I'll find a project for it, so you know, just to branch out a bit, it's a 5/5 experience for me -- if you are familiar with this particular board design and aren't interested in deviating from it right now, that's probably a 5/5 for you. For someone new to MCUs who wants something they can settle into, I'd probably want something more price-competitive -- but then I'm not sure how tariffs are going to play out (I bought some Rock-2F boards for $10 a couple months ago; now the lowest-priced version is $44), so maybe this is the new cheap for us.
Stevelicious RexReviewed in the United States on July 29, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Pre-soldered Minimum Spec Development Board
This is a simple pre-soldered tiny development board with a 100mhz of processing power. The quality of the pins' connection is strong and its ready to be programmed and dropped into a project. It has USB-C for programming and power. There is a built-in DFU bootloader, but you can also use ST-Link V2. It has power and reset buttons as well as a button to change boot modes. Very reasonably priced and readily available with little to no soldering required. Overall, these work great for simple projects. Very easy to incorporate into many different ideas and the pre-soldered pins make adding sensors extremely easy. Not the best interface but if you know what you're doing you should be able to get everything set up without issue.
