Phone is locked
I was looking forward to use it but unfortunately, the phone ask for a code to unlock it. There is no code written anywhere to unlock it. Watched many videos of how to set it up but in all those videos, the screen is unlocked to begin with. I’m assuming I received a used returned phone. I’m disappointed & now I need to return it. Based on all the reviews and my experience, ordering this phone is a gamble.

Just got it! So far so good it's not locked to any provider I'm using rogers and it works. Basic phone.. I still have my regular phone but I didn't wanna use social media unless I wanted to so I'm leaving my fancier phone at home!! This is so great I feel like I'm getting my life back!! I noticed the battery runs low quick... but honestly I'm trying to use my phone less so I don't think it's a big deal you don't lose battery if you just leave it there. It's big and blocky but so nice. Finally have a dumb phone and people won't be able to reach me 24/7 unless they have my cell!! It's honestly the best of both worlds!!

In a classic case of "should have read the reviews" I bought this phone expecting the seller to be telling the truth when they advertised an 'un-locked' phone. This is indeed a T-mobile device and will not work on other networks. Device seems robust in build quality, but I will gripe about the usability a little bit. The phone is very large, and about as sleek as a rhino. You also cannot used the D-pad on the keyboard to navigate the homescreen, which is annoying. It forces you to use the touch screen for a lot of the functions, which seems to me to defeat the purpose of having a D-pad in the first place. During initiate set-up of the phone a keyboard appears on the touchscreen that you MUST use, as the T9 function on the phone's keypad only produces numbers. I'm sure this is different in the actual texting app, but I never got that far as my Virgin Plus SIM card cold not be read properly.

If all you need is a basic phone, this is the one. My father is 80 and he is allergic to technology (seriously, he breaks out in curse words). I bought him several basic flip phones from Koodo, my provider, and every single one has been garbage.
While this Cat phone is not perfect, it is a huge leap above the other "senior's" phones on the market.
Once I disabled or deleted all the unnecessary bloat ware included in every phone (not that hard or that much on this one) it works flawlessly. It has excellent clarity on speaker and microphone for making and receiving calls, plenty of volume, and is simple to learn to use. My father actually likes that it is a bit heavy and thick, as he has dropped a few of his other phones and not one has ever survived a single drop without something breaking. This one seems like it could take a bit of abuse without issue.
The battery is good for 2 days or more of use (he never goes on internet with it, and why would you on a 2.75 inch screen), and the phone does exactly what it should without fuss.
Only gripe I have is the actual dialing of the phone. The keys are large, easy to read, and have a nice tactile feel when using them, but the touch screen for speed dialing is annoying. pressing the green phone to dial brings up a contact list, which is great, but selecting the person to call only bring up a half menu with a tiny dial phone on the bottom corner. This should be much larger, or have the option to just press the dial button to call once the person is selected, but it doesn't. You have to either touch the bottom left of the screen on the tiny phone symbol. Not a deal breaker, but annoying and counter intuitive.
He has only had the phone a day or two, and now that I have coached him how to properly use it as a "dumb phone) and disabled or deleted all the other stuff he likes it a lot.
Can't comment on durability yet, but if there are issues, I will update.
    Hope this helps

I bought this for my Dad, because he's older and really struggling to use his virus-laden smartphone. I didn't realise this is an Android phone when I bought it. I just needed something that worked for phone calls, and receiving text messages.

I tried this with my Freedom Mobile SIM, and his Koodo SIM, both worked great. Call quality is fantastic. Nice, heavy device. I appreciate the ruggedness, and the external screen. Buttons have a nice tactile feel to them. I do miss the simplicity of flip phones, but I digress.

These are the problems I've run into:

The default virtual keyboard is laughably small. No person could ever use this keyboard. On top of that, it was constantly filling in words when I tried to press a letter. I discovered that it had "Glide keyboard" enabled by default (swipe instead of tap to text). After I disabled this, I could at least type out a few names (barely). I did find another 12-key keyboard, and switched to that. It's much better, but still not a good experience. I doubt my Dad can use it with his carpenter hands.

The physical loudspeaker button (I assume that's what it is), does not turn on the loudspeaker during calls. It doesn't seem to do anything except move the cursor focus.

The hang up button doubles as the power button, which is fine, but the icon for it is so small, I can barely see it.

Getting a list of all installed programs was difficult (swipe up on home screen). I found it because I used to work with smartphones a lot. My Dad would never find it. That's not a very friendly feature of Android.

The physical keyboard doesn't seem to be able to type letters out like the old T9 keypads of yesteryear. I would have appreciated that instead of or in addition to the tiny virtual keyboard.

Since I just bought this, I don't know the longevity of it, or the quality of the battery. Batteries do need time to have their charge/discharge characteristics learned by the software. But, in the time I had it, it seemed okay. I cleaned up this phone, and set it up, so it's basically just a cell phone. I think it'll be okay just for that.

Update: My Dad didn't like it. So I used it for a few days and realised, I don't like it either. It's too cumbersome for anything other than phone calls. The operating system is quite slow by today's standards. Webpage load time is slow, viewing pictures is slow. This feels very much like they took Android and slapped it on there, and called it a day. It would have been so much better if they just tied the buttons into the OS somehow.

You guys had decades and decades of cell phones. My flip phone from 2005 had better cell service and phone quality than this. What a joke. Every time I made a phone call people wouldn’t be able to hear me good, it sounded like I was underwater. How can a phone in 2025 be this bad? Walmart Android phones that are $60 sound better.

The only positive thing I can say is that the phone itself is actually nice and feels good but other than that, it’s junk.

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH BOOST MOBILE, AND MANY OTHER SMALL CHEAP CELL PHONE PLANS. WORKS PERFECTLY WITH T-MOBILE. BE AWARE EVEN IF THE AMAZON LISTING SAYS ''UN-LOCKED'' I HAD TWO OF THESE CAT 22's THAT WERE "SUPPOSEDLY" UNLOCKED. NEITHER WOULD WORK ON THESE SMALLER CARRIES. OTHER THAN THAT, IF YOU HATE CARRYING A CHUNKY PIECE OF PLASTIC WITH YOU, I'D RECCOMEND THE CAT S22, DOUBLE SIDED TAPE WITH A OLD BELT CLIP OFF A CELL PHONE CASE.....AND CARRY LIKE A REAL MAN. ON A BELT CLIP ON YOUR BELT. THIS CELL PHONE ISN'T COMPLETELY DUMB, JUST A BIT HANDICAPPED AND RIDES THE SHORT BUS FOR LIFE.

I got this phone as a way to step back from my iPhone 12 and break free from the global smartphone addiction. I wanted to switch to either the Light Phone 2 or the Minimal Phone, but they were both on pre-order, so I found this awesome deal for under $70.

I’m not really a fan of the built-in T-Mobile apps since I use Mint, and I wasn’t too keen on the Google apps either, at first.

Coming from an iPhone, everything else feels pretty foreign to me. The number of messenger apps on the Play Store is just nuts—there are so many that look alike! I don’t get how people find that better unless you’re really into tech; it just feels like a drain on your time and energy to figure it all out.

Once I got into the phone, I turned off all the non-essential apps like maps and Chrome. I downloaded Google Messenger and Google Contacts, which was cool because I can tweak my contacts and organize them from either my phone or computer.

Now I’m rocking this old-school rugged flip phone from around 2001. I can go all weekend without charging it, and folks over 40 always seem super curious about it. Their top question? “Do you have to use T-9 or re-learn it? I couldn’t handle that!” But nah, it's still a touchscreen with Android, and the text-to-speech feature is pretty handy. If you want to use it like a smartphone, Google Assistant’s there too, but it doesn’t make it so easy that you end up mindlessly scrolling at dinner or while watching TV.

I’m still planning on getting a Minimal Phone for that Blackberry vibe with an e-ink screen, but this phone is perfect for anyone wanting a tough device to use while stepping away from the madness of Silicon Valley.
