- Reviewed in Canada on July 1, 2025Verified PurchaseI saw the warning that this is a "frequently returned item" — and I can see why. I think many people buy this expecting a fully featured smartphone. Technically, it is one — but the screen is very small, so it's definitely not ideal for use as your primary smartphone.
I already have a large smartphone that meets all my needs — except one: it's too big to jog with, work in the yard with, or use comfortably while being active. That’s where this flip phone really shines. It's small enough to carry around easily, great for staying connected, and works well primarily as a voice phone. But it can also run WhatsApp, Telegram, and other messaging apps.
I often use it to listen to online radio, and surprisingly, the sound quality is better than on my main phone. The battery is small, but in standby mode it only drains about 1% per hour, giving you around four days of use. Streaming radio for three hours used just 10% of the battery — very efficient. I'm not concerned about battery life, especially since it's user-replaceable. Swapping it takes only about three minutes by removing the back cover, and a replacement battery costs about $21 CAD.
One more cool feature: there’s an “Always Charging” mode that works only when the phone is powered on. When enabled, it helps protect the battery from overcharging.
The phone is rugged and waterproof — perfect if you like jogging in the rain while listening to your favorite radio station (even without headphones).
- Reviewed in Canada on July 3, 2024Verified PurchaseUpdate: got new battery, still less than a day battery life. Given up on this phone now and moving on. Would not recommend.
The phone is everything it is suppose to be. Everything is amazing, T9 word has a glitch where it won't put a space in between the current word and the predicted next word when you select it. Kind of annoying but I live with it. This phone is HARDY and WILL take the abuse of life. It is ALMOST everything they advertise. The battery is bad, real bad. If you talk or text regularly you will not make it through the day with a charge. 3 hours into the day with no talking or texting I will lose 10% battery life. It won't last 24 hours on a charge, maybe 12-14. I might have gotten a bad battery but this a major down fall for the phone I got. Otherwise its good, will be buying a new battery for it soon and hopefully that fixes the issue for me.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 12, 2024Verified PurchaseBigger than a classic flip phone. Its footprint is almost as big as iPhone 14 pro, but it's almost twice the thickness of an iPhone!
I bought it for construction work. Feels like a toy phone because it's so big, so its a little embarrassing to open in public, but it's sturdy and it's going to be a great dumb phone. It's heavy, but I won't be carrying it around in my pocket, I'll be keeping it on my desk or in the truck. If you want this in your pocket often you're going to want a smaller phone.
I have a feeling I could drive over this and it would be fine. The system is a bit gimmicky to me, but once I deleted all the unnecessary apps, it will work fine as a phone for calls. The screen is a touchscreen but isn't big enough to be useful for smartphone things. It came with a lot of the newer apps that I wouldn't expect to be on a phone with a small screen - like Youtube.
Overall, if you are ok with the massive size of the phone, I think it's a good purchase. Works fine on 4G with Koodo sim card, even though it says it's a T-Mobile phone.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 21, 2024Verified PurchaseIf you're computer-savvy, you can make this phone work as your daily phone with no loss in functionality, while still reducing your screen time. If you're less computer-savvy, it performs great and has enough base functions for anyone to use. If you run into problems with running your SIM card, simply connect to wifi and update the phone.
If you want full smartphone utility such as being able to run Duolingo and banking apps, you will need to mess around with the settings past what most people are familiar with. Turning on developer mode and changing the minimum screen size to 450 will let you run most apps with no problems.
The programmable button on the side is very handy, great for pulling up your contacts, turning on your flashlight, or a number of other features. It's not overly intuitive to use, and it initially seems like a button that does nothing.
It does come pre-loaded with some unsavory bloatware, including a bunch of T-mobile "apps" that can't be removed without some serious computer know-how. One particularly alarming pre-installed app is "Mobile Installer" followed by some non-english text. Even one of the ringtones is T-mobile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent durable and hard-working phone. I could not ask for anything more!
Verified PurchaseWas very skeptical about purchasing at first due to mixed reviews. However, I found this phone to be fantastic! Was purchased as a gift for a farmer who is not very gentle and this phone has met the test of time. So durable, excellent sound quality, sleek styling and overall a great value. Compatible with our plan and many others. The price point is phenomenal and it's very difficult to find such a good quality and durable device without a huge sticker. Attached. Would definitely purchase again!

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Make Phone Calls or Texts All That Well
Verified PurchaseWhy did you pick this product vs others?:
I picked up this phone because it promised to be durable and make phone calls.
Unfortunately, it doesn't do that very well. As you try to dial it lags considerably causing you to double type numbers or miss digits.
I bought this to be a dumb phone, and all I needed for it to do was to make calls and maybe text. It was constantly getting bogged down by the simplest tasks.
In addition, it required me to regularly reboot it because it claimed that it could not read my SIM card. This phone fails at the most basic level which is too bad. I really liked the idea of it being a flip phone that would give me a break from social media and other notifications.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great step away from smartphone addiction — not perfect, but absolutely worth it
Verified PurchaseIn 2023, I made the decision to get rid of my smartphone. I sold my latest-model Samsung, and with the money, bought a nikon camera and this flip phone. After a lot of research, I landed on the CAT S22. It’s not a true “dumb phone,” but it’s dumb enough — just enough to break the cycle of doomscrolling and mindless app use, while still giving me the basic functionality I need.
Why I chose this phone — and why I’m glad I did:
I needed something that could still run a few essential apps — Google Maps, mobile banking, audiobooks, even the daycare pickup app for my nephew. The CAT S22 can download most apps (though some don’t work well on the small screen), and that balance has been perfect for me.
What I love:
-My brain is quieter. Truly. Moving to this simpler phone has made a noticeable difference in my mental clarity and overall peace. No more being sucked into social media. No more wasted hours scrolling.
-It does what I need. I can text (I use a different keyboard with swype + voice input), call, listen to audiobooks, check maps, and run a few key apps.
-Great speakers. Calls are clear, and I can play music or audiobooks and hear them just fine.
-Good battery life. A full charge lasts a day or two, and I love that the battery is removable — I brought a spare on a camping trip and just swapped it out.
-Strong service. I get the same level of signal and reception as my husband’s high-end smartphone.
-The flip phone vibe is fun. Honestly, people think I’m some kind of secret agent when I snap it shut. That alone adds a little joy to the day.
Downsides — and why I still stick with it:
-Durability is iffy. I’ve gone through three of these phones. Thankfully, I bought the insurance plan, and each time the hinge broke (from dropping it), they replaced it. The flip top just isn’t as sturdy as I hoped, so this phone is not for the super clumsy (guilty).
-The camera is awful. Potato quality. Don’t plan on using this for pictures. I use a separate camera for that now and I’m much happier with the results.
-Small screen = limited app functionality. Some apps just won’t run or display properly — which is actually kind of the point. I didn’t want something addictive, just something functional.
-No headphone jack. I use Bluetooth when needed, but it’s worth noting for anyone who still relies on wired headphones.
Bottom line: If you're looking to simplify your digital life, stay off social media, and break free from the smartphone trap — without giving up all modern function — the CAT S22 is a great in-between. It’s not perfect, but it’s exactly what I needed to reset my tech habits, stay connected, and live a little more intentionally.

5.0 out of 5 stars As expected!
Verified PurchaseVery good phone! It's easy to use, worth it for the price, the size is a bit bulky yet very durable with is what I wanted and is what I expected according to the shown picture. Battery life isn't amazing, but not bad... It lasts more than my old phone so it's amazing!
