This game takes the Mercenaries modes from Resident Evil 4 and 5, and make a whole game out of it. It doesn't entirely succeed, though, since there isn't much content.
A lot of people give this game flak for not allowing you to delete save data. If you don't mind only being able to unlock stuff once, getting a new copy with no previous save data should be fine.

The game does NOT allow you to use the Circle Pad Pro like in Resident Evil Revelations. If you like the classic RE4 style of shooting, you're good to go.

The characters you can play are Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Claire, Krauser, Wesker Barry, and HUNK. No Leon, Sheva, or Ada, strangely.

Pros:
- Controls well
- The same score-attack action of console Mercenaries complete with bosses, combo time, challenges, everything you like
- Unlockable characters, costumes, achievements, weapon loadouts, and special skills
- Local and online 2-player co-op

Cons:
- Not a fully-priced game's worth of stages or enemies

Verdict:
If you love the Mercenaries modes from 4 and 5 and you can get this game for $20 or less, I think it's worth it, especially if you have a friend to play with.

If you have played Resident Evil 4 or 5 at the completeion of the main story is a fun and addicting mini game call The Mercenaries, this is exactly that game but rather an expanded version of it. The game includes 8 characters all with one alternate costume, 8 maps varying from day to night settings and loads of enemies to kill. The main game comes with a tutorial for noobs, along with wave mode (killing a set number of enemies and completing a set number of waves from 5-15), and the standard kill as many enemies within an amount of time. The gameplay itself is fun and addicting to noobs and veterans, however those looking for a new experience complete with new maps and enemies you won't find it here. Beyond the standard game there is a lot of replay value, achievements (medals) to unlock, local and online play with a partner and other unlockables. Concerning the issue with only one save file and the inability to erase the file. This really does NOT impact the game at all. Theres really no need to have multiple files to begin with and why would you want to erase it? Overall the game is enjoyable experience for the hardcore fan, with DLC to be desired. Overall 7.5/10

Be warned before buying this game. Mediocre reviews aside, Capcom is again pulling some shady and pointless business practices just to save some money that only harm the fans/consumers in the end. Specifically, this game is purposely limited to a single save state that is not erasable.

What this means is, after you play through the game and unlock everything/level up everything, you will NEVER be able to restart a fresh game and play again from the start. This also means you cannot lend this game to family and friends unless they play your already-completed game, or they play it and save over your progress themselves. You will also have difficulty trading/selling this game because of this "feature".

Capcom should be ashamed of themselves for implementing something so useless and potentially game-breaking like that when it is entirely un-needed. Show Capcom that this kind of thing is not acceptable, and that we the fans deserve better treatment of our favorite franchises that WE supported them to help them create over the years.

Negative reviews for this game must come from being misinformed about the product.
I will agree that it is a little unusual to not be able to erase your saved data, however, you can replay any level at any time with or without having any power ups on. This essentially lets you start over, and over! The thing to remember is that this is an arcade-type game, you may not play for three hours in a session, and there is always high scores to go after.
One inclusion that should have been made is an online leaderboard...

Go read every review on �鶹��, IGN and G4. I don't care which side you will take, but this is my opinion of the game. This is my favorite 3DS game to date. As the title implies, this is RE Mercenaries on a hand-held. First thoughts are obvious, poor graphics/fps, gameplay and sound while comparing to the previous mercenaries on PS3 or X Box 360. Let me rephrase. This is RE Mercenaries on a hand-held, and it's an incredible experience for an actual fan of the Mercenaries. There's no story, no plot, no suspense, and no zombies. This is just a race to kill 150 las plagas infected enemies to earn points. Featuring customizable weapons and skills for characters, three RE4 levels with the RE5 combo system and the more advanced challenge of the EX levels. The graphics are incredible, it's beautifully redesigned. Along with original music, as well as classics you'll be glad to hear again. The controls are very smooth and comfortable which also allow you to move while shooting and/or reloading. You are able to change weapons between characters and also upgrade skills by earning skill points by clearing missions. You have eight characters(each with an alternate costume so you'd have to beat each mission sixteen times) with their own unique style of combat attacks. If you love RE for the action get Mercenaries.

Here are the problems with the game. I was hoping for more characters and maps, but Capcom really hates Leon Kennedy for some reason. It's not too big of a problem, just a bit of a let down. That still didn't stop me from purchasing the game, and it wouldn't. There are moments when the enemies appear "choppy" and stand still but it only happens while playing online. Any system with online play has these problems, it's a very minute(not time) problem that will pop in when there's a bad online connection or interference.

Last but not least here's a few shots back. Don't comment because I'm not wasting my time having cyber arguments.

The save feature is ingenious, this should be on every game, and every system. Obviously people have never mastered a game and had to remaster it when it the files were erased. Just unequip the skills and the difficulty remains along with your scores.

If somebody purchased a Nintendo 3DS, then gripes that it's over priced and has to borrow or buy used, something seems a little wrong with that picture. The economy is bad, if you can't afford it don't play it.

The name of the game is Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D, look up a trailer before you spend forty dollars if you're unaware what the Mercenaries is. The game is exactly what the title implies.

Finally, I'll guarantee that one-hundred percent of the people bashing this game will never pull off a solo 150 combo. For actual fans of Mercenaries, they know what I'm talking about. Great work Nintendo and Capcom.

Everyone is giving it one star reviews because you can't overwrite the save file! IT'S DAY ONE OF IT BEING RELEASED! WHERE WOULD YOU FIND IT USED??? If you're a REAL Resident Evil fan, you'll buy this game new and give CAPCOM the money they deserve anyway.

Now to the game itself:

It has the best graphics on the system BY FAR. It almost looks like you're playing it on your PS3 or 360. And the gameplay for this version of Mercenaries has improved upon the gameplay of the older home console versions quite a bit. Instead of just wiggling a stick to escape being grabbed, you actually have to press a series of buttons that flash up on the screen, and if you press the wrong one you take damage. As you get further into the levels of the game, the enemies become increasingly difficult to kill (meaning they take more shots to put down) unlike the home console versions. The cast of characters you can use and levels you can play at is nearly flawless. I say NEARLY flawless because they are missing Leon and Ada. AND YOU CAN MOVE AND SHOOT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN A RESIDENT EVIL GAME!!! But the best addition to this game, by far, is the added RPG elements to it. You acquire "Skills" for many different attributes (ex. pistol handling, health recovery, exp boosters) and you gain skill points for them by completing levels. Each skill maxes out at level 3, so having 3 skills equipped at level 3 can really help you if you're stuck on a rather difficult level (and believe me, the levels get pretty hard in single player.) BUT THAT'S WHY THERE IS ONLINE CO-OP IN THIS GAME! That's right, just like in Resident Evil 5, you can go online and find a partner to help you with a specific stage.

I'm saying this game is amazing not just because I am a huge Resident Evil fan, but because it just might be the best game on the system in terms of graphics, gameplay, sound, and replayability. Buy it and enjoy the endless amount of time you will put into trying to get a SS rank on every level with every character.

to everyone complaining about the single save file: this is not the first time a game company has done this. why pick this particular game to cause such an uproar about?

sure, if multiple people play your 3ds, that would be annoying. as for me, i'm the only one who plays my 3ds, so unless i want to sell the game at some point, this has no effect on me.

as for the game, i think its fantastic. i own resident evil 4 and 5, and yes, it's basically a retread of an extra feature in those games. however, this one is portable, and in 3d. i find it to be a perfect experience on the 3ds, as i usually only play it for a few minutes at a time, and thats long enough to complete a mission in this game.

The graphics in RE:MERCS are stunning. I'd say they're right up there with the best graphics ever seen on any Nintendo system (minus the upcoming Wii U).

There are really very few levels in the game, but the unlockables keep me playing over and over and over. it really is addicting.

The controls are fantastic as well. i wondered how they could pull off a TPS/FPS like this with 3DS controls, but capcom has done it.

thereis also a top notch online feature that allows you to take on a mission with a buddy or a random stranger.

Overall, I think its a great way to experience a portable RE game, and a great game to show you what the 3DS is capable of.

The only thing I could complain about is it really is difficult to put down sometimes once I've started playing it.

The game is completely fine, but I bought this in order to get the RE Revelations Pilot Demo which was supossed to be in here, but wasn't. In almost every place you buy this game, the demo is advertised to be part of this game. ( I like playing early demos of my favorite games because of the differences btw). So, if you wanted this game just for the mercenaries mode then it's completely fine, but if you were like me and wanted everything that was advertised on the website and box then you will be disappointed.
