The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise Audio CD – Unabridged, Jan. 8 2019
鶹
*Winner of a Parents' Choice Gold Award*
"Khristine Hvam's narration is as heartfelt as the story of 12-year-old Coyote Sunrise...Both the story and Hvam's distinctive narration will linger in listeners' minds." ― AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner
Five years.
That's how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation.
It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash.
Coyote hasn’t been home in all that time, but when she learns that the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished―the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box―she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state in four days...without him realizing it.
Along the way, they'll pick up a strange crew of misfit travelers. Lester has a lady love to meet. Salvador and his mom are looking to start over. Val needs a safe place to be herself. And then there's Gladys...
Over the course of thousands of miles, Coyote will learn that going home can sometimes be the hardest journey of all...but that with friends by her side, she just might be able to turn her “once upon a time” into a “happily ever after.”
Praise for The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise:
"If Katherine Applegate says a book “just plain makes you want to hug the world,” you know there’s magic there. And if you have narrator Khristine Hvam delivering a warm, slightly twangy performance as said book’s travel-worn protagonist, then that’s a listening experience not to be missed." - Paste.com

About the author

Hi! I live in a small town smack dab in the middle of Washington state with my wife and three young daughters. I was lucky and grateful to be a teacher-librarian in an elementary school for 13 years, where I got to share awesome books with awesome kids. I love camping, cooking and traveling. I also play guitar (badly) and read (constantly). My house is always a mess. I am really pretty darn happy.
I've written five middle grade novels: THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF COYOTE SUNRISE, GOOD DOG, SCAR ISLAND, THE HONEST TRUTH, and SOME KIND OF COURAGE.

- Reviewed in Canada on March 14, 2022Verified PurchaseA father-daughter cross-country quest in an old school bus, with plenty of twists and turns. Entertaining but never slick or facile. I was going to give it to my ten-year-old granddaughter, but I'm going to read it again first.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 30, 2020Verified PurchaseI read this with my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son and we all loved it. The writer's voice is beautiful and thoughtful without making the voice of a child narrator into a cliché. We laughed and cried ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Good
Verified PurchaseFantastic Book! The story made me care, made me feel, engaged me, and made me miss the characters when I finished the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was shocked when I found out it was in the middle grade genre because it engaged me so well that a children's genre never crossed my mind. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. The narrator is fantastic and is the perfect voice for Coyote.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book on love, friendship and family.
Verified PurchaseIt's a very very very very nice book, to be precise. Most children n adults don't even know in today's date what 'love' actually means. They just think it of the stuff they see in movies, which is not true.
This book shows us what love really means, what family really means, what a good friend can do and many more things including a definition of 'magical feeling', which rang true to me. 😄
The protagonist, Coyote and her thoughts connect straight to heart. I once told this story to one of my friends and she was so happy to listen that she told me that she's really gonna spread this message of real meaning of love to all she knew.
The way in which Coyote makes friends or judges people on the basis of their favourite book is really cool. This thing reflects the nature of the author too.
Overall, a must recommended book for children as well as the adults.
