Every audiophile's dream
Any time you ask on any AV related forum on which movies are best for demonstrating or testing out a new home theater setup this movie without a doubt gets mentioned and for good reason. The movie itself is actually good...I bought this movie strictly for the audio and visuals but I was surprised that it's an actually great movie. The race scene is amazing for showcasing your surround sound setup especially Atmos and the LFE channel gets a huuuuuuge workout at the finally fight scene (look at the screenshot I posted). Anyone who has a good subwoofer will appreciate that scene and all it's bass goodness. When people use the term "shaking the neighbors house" that's the scene they were most likely playing 😂 I'm so glad I bought this 4K disc because I not only have an amazing visuals and audio display to showcase my system but also a great movie to boot.

    The plot and follow through from the cast and crew alike are like seeing YTV's Video & Arcade Top 10 tips and tricks section all over again.
    We each learn something new about era-specific video game lore and the like.
    (Can't wait for the sequel that is supposed to currently be in production, tbh) - June 4th, 2025.

    Based on Ernest Cline's novel and directed by Spielberg, you know this will be good. Note, though, that there is a significant departure from the book. The movie should be viewed by itself as a new work. It is not meant to be a faithful recreation.
    The animation and graphics are excellent. They were not going for hyperrealism, but man, does this movie look great on a nice 4K set! Excellent colours and attention to detail.
    The premise is thought-provoking and straightforward enough to be enjoyed by people of almost all ages. Don't let that fool you, though. Spielberg makes lots of really clever cinematic choices that enhance the immersion and mise en scene, as well as an interesting quasi-dystopian, take on our society and existential difficulties from the novel. Throw in a ton of well-integrated pop culture references from movies and video games and some fun, mindless action, and you have Ready Player One.
    Where this movie really shines for me, though, is the soundtrack. Not only is the surround sound mix fantastic with accurate sounds all around you, but it also packs a big punch. The initial race scene with King Kong made it feel like Kong was stomping around in my living room. If I ever want to pick a movie to show off my home theater's sound system, this will be near the top of the list.
