Your typical Razer product, great but vastly overcharged.
4 out of 5 stars
Your typical Razer product, great but vastly overcharged.
With that said, I was getting some pretty serious cramps, so rather than being able to determine if I could build a tolerance, I opted for the Tournament Edition which is the alternative to this one but wired. It's a good product, but its benefits are more nuanced than some other great products on the market. It doesn't jump at you immediately. Not to sound cryptic but the ergonomic takes a certain level of "getting accustomed to", some of the buttons invoke some weird decisions such as tactile on face buttons, but mechanical on back paddles. The software is good with some unique aspects, but also some pretty standard ones missing. I'd categorize this one as a "gotta try everything once" kind of solution and it seems some people love it, while others, not so much. I'd say I'm more in the first team, but I know I'll need time to get there, not everyone is inclined to invest this much time in a gaming peripheral.

Great controller overall. Great buttons, great functionality. The shape is okay for medium to big hands. Precise sticks and triggers. Battery life is also pretty good, and you can charge and use it simultaneously. The recent firmware update brought recalibration, on-the-fly profile switching, and software hair triggers.
I bought it for Xbox and it has been great for that purpose.
The only real issue is the fact that it doesn't have Bluetooth/MacOS connectivity. That would probably make it the best Xbox controller on the market right now.

Trash the controller got bricked from the Razer update and although it was only a day old they just gave me the run around to get a replacement. No they won’t say they won’t warranty it. They will just continue asking you the same information repeatedly so you will eventually give up. Thank God for 鶹 after one phone call to them they replaced it the next day.

Pros: Amazingly precise hall effect sticks - the most recent firmware takes care of the release version deadzone issues. Super smooth movement with medium tension and anti-friction rings. Triggers feel properly dampened, move smoothly and have an alternative mode which turns them into mouse clicks. Face buttons are flawless - clicky, but not too hard to press. Wireless connection uses a dongle and is flawless and very low latency. Back buttons are perfectly placed and responsive. Rubberized handles feel amazing. Comes with extra thumbsticks, carrying case and long braided cable. Battery life seems good, especially compared to PS5 Dualsense Edge which I also own. Razer RGB logo is understated and classy.

Cons: It is a bit expensive, ergonomics are different than the XBOX Series X original controller so it does take a couple of hours to adjust to the shape, haptics are strong but not deep as the XSX controller. Headphone volume is also about 25% lower than the XSX controller.

Conclusion: This is the best XBOX Series X controller. It does feel just slightly less premium compared to the Elite 2 and it is very expensive, so that is why I am giving it 4 stars. Assuming that it is more reliable compared to the notoriously problematic Elite 2, this controller will de facto become the new go-to Pro controler for Xbox Series X.

Update: After a few weeks, the left trigger started behaving differently than the right trigger - when fully depressed, it sounds and feels very hollow with a hard stop. The right trigger is still properly dampened and feels premium. In mouse click mode, it still works properly. Disappointing.

    TLDR:
Some buttons no longer work and have to unplug replug every other day
Was so hopeful about this one as I’ve gone through so many that have back buttons/paddles including the Elite, other Razer controllers, PowerA (these barely got past the 90day warranties) etc
    PROS
    Easy to re-map the buttons
    Feels well built
Has 4 buttons not the back
    CONS
Buttons on the back are real close together…got used to it but not great
“Controller is disconnected” comes up often-unplug and plug back in and it seems ok
Headset get robo voice often…maybe that’s the headset though?

5.0 out of 5 stars They fixed it guys. You can remap to keyboard inputs now
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2025

I was, at first, disappointed that Razer controller app wouldn't let me remap the buttons to keyboard inputs and only to controller buttons. Like, why would I want 7 a-buttons or 4 x-buttons and 3 y-buttons? It was nonsensical.

However, Razer recently released a firmware update which makes the controller synapse-compatible, so I'm ready to commit to saying that I love this controller! I especially like the onboard memory and multiple profiles so it works perfectly without synapse running (after using synapse to remap the buttons, obv).

The only two things I really hope Razer adds in a future update is macro support and razer hypershift, which don't work for this device like they do for (all?) Razer mice and Razer keyboards. That would fully unleash the power of this device. Also maybe let me remap all the buttons and change left stick to wasd and right stick to mouse? Just a thought...

Until then, I'm forced to use 3rd party software to get those features. reWASD (not free) has those features and works well with this device. The additional buttons are detected as a "wolverine v3 device" which i tell it to recognize as a keyboard. So set the addition bumper buttons to, for example, 1 and 2 in synapse, and then remap 1 and 2 on the "Wolverine v3 keyboard" in reWASD to your combo or your "shift to layer _". Then, you have a lot more customization options. 1 and 2 continue to function as normal when it receives those input from any keyboard other than " wolverine v3 keyboard", so no worries there. Also, the regular buttons are recognized as an "Xbox 360" controller, so just group that with the "wolverine v3 keyboard". Don't forget to mute the remapped buttons. That way, it only sends the remapped input and not both the remapped input and the native input. Unless, that's what you want it to do... Then, go crazy

Thank you Razer, for fixing your device. It makes it 100x more useful. I doubt you read these, but add those 2 (maybe 3) features, save me the trouble of working around your lack of customization, and you would have a PERFECT controller. But I'm SO happy you fixed the bulk of the problem, that I'm still giving you 5 stars.

Bought this item last year to play a few games on steam with controller support. The controller is light, sleek, easy to hook up and use, the action in it is amazing, the battery lasts a long while, I am thoroughly pleased with this controller. In fact, I loved it so much that when my brother-in-law needed a new controller I gave him mine, and just bought another. I've used dozens of controllers over the years. My initial foray into gaming was on consoles, so I have a lot of practical experience using controllers on console and PC. The price tag made me leery initially, but it's clear as day when you start using the controller why it's priced where it is. Worth the extra expense to have a controller that will not only be reliable, but work well with almost any game you throw at it.
