5.0 out of 5 starsTurning the barbed T into a barbed Cross

In Colorado, we had unexpected hot weather (90 degree days for a week) in September. Also, the angle of the sun changed so that our flower barrel with shade loving impatiens planted around the barrel perimeter was exposed to full sunlight almost all day. This hot combo appeared to melt the impatiens. Complicating the problem was a large, glorious honeysuckle in the center of barrel. Throughout the entire summer, both the impatiens and the honey suckle did wonderfully being watered by a single quarter inch drip line. The honeysuckle even grew beyond a 12 foot trellis to reach the sun on our deck above the barrel. To water the perimeter impatiens, I initially connected the barbed T to a quarter inch soaker hose circling the barrel perimeter. This worked great for the impatiens but deprived the honeysuckle in the barrel center of water. Consequently, I extended one end of a paper clip and wrapped duct tape around the other, heated the extended paper clip end with a candle, then forced the hot paper clip through the rounded end of the T that other reviewers use as a handle. After a few attempts at heating and pushing, the hot paperclip end pierced the T handle and allowed water to flow through freely. I then attached a piece of quarter inch soaker hose to the T handle that was almost the diameter of the barrel in length producing a cross with a soaker circle that watered both the perimeter impatiens as well as the honeysuckle in the center.
In retrospect, it would have been easier simply to add another quarter inch line with the barbed T connected to a quarter inch soaker around the perimeter. I must add that I branded my palm when the hot paperclip end finally pierced the barbed T, reminding me of a "Tool Time" episode. However, the T-turned-Cross works wonderfully and makes up for a lightly branded palm. Of course, my wife finds my "red hot paperclip solution" to be the kind of testosterone fueled foolishness that leads to men having a shorter life expectancy than the women who endure them.
5.0 out of 5 starsThese are the ones you want. Far superior to the Dig version

I bought 2 different brands of the barbed tees . When I ran out of these, the Rain Bird version, and tried to use the other brand I had, it was awful. These are superior because they have a 4th end, opposite the slanted connection, that doesn't actually have an opening. The other brand doesn't have that. At first, I didn't know what that "unnecessary" side was for, but it turned out it fits into the rain bird emitter installation tool so you can get a good grip and then the tubing goes on a lot easier. I have weak hands and setting all this up is taking me forever. When I tried to use the brand without that protrusion, inserting the 1/4 line was darn near impossible. So buy these and you'll be glad you did.
5.0 out of 5 starsLeak-free drip irrigation connections

I use these connectors to create short "branches" from a main drip irrigation line. When I want to install a drip emitter, I cut the main line, insert one of these connectors into the main line, and run a short line from the barb to the emitter. There is a trick to connecting them; it's best to soak the end of the drip line in hot water for about 10 seconds before pressing it onto the connector. However, the effort is worthwhile, because the connections are sturdy and don't leak.
