Amazing puzzle but absolutely be warned this is for advanced builders.

This isn’t like the regular wooden puzzles Rokr usually produces as this one, I believe, is set at the highest level of difficulty and for good reason.

There are a ton — and I mean a TON — of super tiny screws meant to build the ship that will put any healthy person’s eyes to the ultimate test. For real. So many little tiny screws hold together important parts of this ship.

Additionally, if you’ve had trouble with small parts breaking in any other of ROKR’s puzzles, this won’t be any exception except there may not be any replacement parts. Make sure to be extremely careful, use an exacto knife to punch pieces out, and not break them during assembly. Most wooden pieces don’t have backups like in their other puzzles.

As for the threading of the sails? Seeing the video of it was helpful, but it takes a while to figure out. If you can figure it out, the result is an absolutely beautiful ship.

Overall, a super beautiful, fun, and challenging puzzle, but be warned this is a challenge. Take your time, read the instructions thoroughly, and have a light touch with the pieces.

I’ve done several wooden assembly kits like this, and I think this is my third from this brand. This one is about what I expected from ROKR in terms of the cons, described below.

PROS: The instructions show more clearly than with other assembly kits I’ve done which part slots in where; that’s a huge pro. Also, it has a really neat design. I like the boat more than I expected. It has fabric sails which is really cool. The gold pieces are super shiny and just look really cool and unusual. The pieces that are etched are done really precisely, cleanly, and with small details, which looks really unusual and fancy. The final product looks great. Assembly is really enjoyable.

CONS: basically, I’d say this is a good product, but it’s not as good as competitors like Ugears. I’ve had similar experiences with the other ROKR kits I’ve done.

- Pieces are too close together on the sheets from which they’re popped out. This makes it difficult to retrieve pieces without other ones coming loose. When pieces come loose ahead of their turn to be used, they get lost at worst but at best hard to find later.
- I feel like the wood on ROKR kits including this one is more fragile than with comparable products.
-I wish the instruction manual drawings had thicker lines because they can be hard to see.
- *Number one issue:* with other brands, the pieces are organized on the sheets by when they’re used. So piece 1 is right next to piece 2 right next to 3 etc for the most part. That makes it really easy to find pieces, and I spend my time assembling rather than searching for pieces. I’ve also had kits that show where exactly the piece is on its sheet. In contrast, on ROKR kits including this one, the pieces are on seemingly random sheets. I spend most of my time a) looking for the sheet I need and b) finding the piece I need on the sheet. The pieces are labeled on the sheet, but the sheet doesn’t have a big label or anything so I find myself looking at basically every sheet every step. I think would give this review a 5* if the pieces were easier to find eg by being grouped by when they’re used.

Ultimately, I gave this 4* because for all my complaints above, this is still a really fun project. I am glad I got it and have gotten considerable enjoyment from assembling. I took away 1* for the issues above, but I still recommend this kit to anyone who is enthusiastic about the design.

This was my first ROKR model, but it won't be my last! I'll be headed to the ROKR store as soon as I finish this review.
The detailed instructions are easy to follow, but this is not a "novice level" model. Everything is painstakingly detailed, and the pieces fit together securely. The pieces that are supposed to move (hidden cannons, helm, winches) move with ease. The engineering of this model is amazing, especially when you consider that (except for the cannons) no piece is more than 2-to-4cm thick! I had hours (and hours, AND hours) of enjoyment constructing this ship. Thank you ROKR!!
