Product description
Ski Queen is a typically Norwegian full fat whey cheese with a fudge-like texture and sweet caramel flavor that was fist made in Gudbrandsdalen valley more than 130 years ago. Anne Hov, a farmer’s wife, was the first person to think of pouring cream into the kettle of whey. Her “fat cheese” got a higher price than her ordinary cheese and butter, and she is reputed to have saved the valley from financial ruin in the 1880’s. Ski Queen’s unique sweet taste is caused by the natural caramelization of milk sugar during production. The color is brown and the cheese is sliceable. Ski Queen is traditionally cut into wafer thin slices and eaten on toast or crispbread. It is also suitable for cooking, e.g. to flavor sauces or make a sweet fondue. A traditional Norwegian brown cheese. Naturally sweet with a mild caramel flavor. Made from a unique blend of goat and cow milk. Pair with a Burgundy or Cortes de Nuits wine and your favorite flatbread.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same Great Norwegian Gjetost Cheese
Verified PurchaseThis cheese is very expensive to purchase, but is of high quality as occasional treat and delivered completely chilled. The cheese blocks are fairly small, but definitely delicious

5.0 out of 5 stars Flavorful Norwegian brown cheese (Ski Queen brand) from Norsland Lefse
Verified PurchaseThe package arrived intact from Norsland Lefse, sturdily wrapped in three bubble wrap envelopes, the inner one metalicised. The cheese was cold and firm (not warm & melted as other people said in the comments) even though the cold ice pack was melted. The Norwegian brown cheese, from Norsland Lefse in Minnesota, was rich tasting with lots of flavor and had a mild sweetness like I remembered it when I traveled in Norway years ago. I had been looking for that cheese in stores for years and could not find it. I'm glad Norsland Lefse carries it on 鶹. It is definitely a value for the money. It reminded me of traveling in Norway, such a beautiful country with the fiords, the high mountains, and friendly people. I immediately stored it in the freezer like Norsland lefse recommended. Even though I've never bought products from Norsland Lefse, on 鶹 or anywhere else, I keep mentioning the store I bought the cheese from, Norsland Lefse, because 鶹 has a bad habit of lumping many companies, that sell the same or similar products, in together, and you cannot tell, if the product and the company selling it, are what people are talking about in the comments! 鶹, get real; we read the comments to find out if the product advertised is what it says it is! I cannot say enough about the quality of the product (Ski Queen classic creamy caramel cheese in the orange wrapper) and the wonderful, quality service of Norsland Lefse in Minnesota. I will definitely buy again from Norsland Lefse!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings back wonderful memories for me
Verified PurchaseI love this cheese. I was brought up on it, my grandmother and I eating gjetost cheese and kanacebrod for breakfast. It is expensive nowadays so I buy it for special occasions. It is rich and creamy with an earthy taste and I remember those innocent days.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to find this anywhere?
Verified PurchaseI was introduced to this cheese when I was young and I cannot find it in any store anywhere! When I saw it on 鶹, I had to order it. It’s a little expensive but it’s worth it if you’ve never tried it you should you might really enjoy it. It’s very rich and creamy.
