How to choose the right garden pruner, Bypass or Anvil?
With a bypass cutting tool, you draw a curved or straight blade past another blade ¡ª this creates a scissor-like motion that works well for cutting live green plants. The spongy, firm outer wall surrounding the stem yields easily to that bypass motion.
With an anvil cutting tool, you bring down a straight blade against a wide anvil usually made of steel or hard rubber. Anvil pruners are better suited for dead and dried-out plants ¡ª the crushing motion causes the brittle stem to kind of explode and separate.

Purchased Fiskar¡¯s for a similar price. Sent them back. Junk. Have been using these to help clear about 700 square feet of blackberry nightmare. Been staying sharp and strong through it all. Really solid quality product for the price paid. Wow. My only gripe would be that the lock catches a fair bit and you have to unlock them mid use, not a big deal tbh. I¡¯ve owned a sea of junk to compare them too. * 10 week update after extreme usage they are still going strong. Hands down some of the best pruners I¡¯ve owned especially for the price paid.

However if you have weak hands, use a rocking motion to cut through green branches 1 inch and slightly above, or use a tree saw as that's where it serves a better purpose. Dead branches its better to use a tree saw anyway.
