Product description
Tube Box S2 Black
Top Brand: Pro-Ject
From the manufacturer

Innovative miniature sized phono preamplifier with tube output and high end sound!
Tube Box S2 is our very first product to feature a fully discreet circuit design without using any operational amplifiers (OpAmps). It also is the first product to come with replaceable tubes for tube rolling and sound-shaping. This gives the customer many options to pick from and alter the sound signature to his preference. Tube Box S2 will give a full and relaxed laid back sound with lush mids, just like you would expect it from a much bigger high end tube phono pre-amplifier. It offers support for both MM and MC cartridges and comes with many gain settings to be switched on the front panel. Five variable input impedance settings are available to adjust to any MM cartridge, the 47k ohm input impedance setting is fixed and suited for high output MC cartridges. The aluminium/metal casing is adapted to our DS2 line in looks and protects against vibrations and electromagnetic interferences for superior sound.
A true high end solution in a much smaller package!

Features

- Reviewed in Canada on January 1, 2025Verified PurchaseI was looking forward to upgrading from the built-in preamp in my Audio-Technica turntable. Wow what a difference! I can’t say enough about the improvement in sound quality. This is being used with a Nagaoka MP-110. This such a great combo. I highly recommend this tube preamp. Very well built. Feels very solid. And sounds amazing. For me well worth the price.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 5, 2021Verified PurchaseThis little preamp took a bit of time to dial in for my liking, mind you I did swap out the tubes for some nos amperex bugle boys. I’m using this with my project turntable T1 SB with an OM20 stylus into a Sonos port, turns out I had kept the line level source still at 10 leading to some upper range distortion on some albums (Alice in Chains mainly and some Chris Cornell) dropped my level to 7 and voila not so hot on the upper range.
Really brings out the music, very articulate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo pre phono

5.0 out of 5 stars Geweldig

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Think Twice, It is Exceptional.
Verified PurchaseA month in, and I'm sure this is my preamp forever.
Give it time, I distinctly noticed an improvement after 30-40 hours of playing. Either a break-in of the tubes, or an adjustment of my ears...I think it's both. Incidentally, the stock tubes in mine are JJ branded (Slovakia), which is probably what the Pro-Ject branded stock tubes are.
The separation and clarity here is exceptional, each tube serves its own channel, left and right. Despite some of the chatter, there are no chips connected to the tubes.
The gain settings are extremely useful, 43db or 50db is my sweet spot depending on what I'm listening to.
I needed a good preamp more than I knew. Spend on your preamp like you spent on your turntable and stylus.
I'm running a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB with a Marantz 1060 to some Mitsubishi DS-40 speakers (late 70s "Diatone Series"), with a Sumiko Moonstone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top pour le prix
