I purchased this to help with removal of stubborn high temp iron-free solder items. I had previously struggled to remove them using a normal soldering iron with a normal sucker as in the fraction of a second removing the iron to get the sucker over the hole the solder would resolidify too much to remove. I also tried various wicks but they were unable to get deep into the crevice's to get all of the solder out cleanly.

I did some research and watched a couple review videos on this device before ordering so I knew a bit of what I was getting into. The device smokes, a lot, on first use, probably some kind of oil, lubricant, or anti corrosive agent inside the iron. So I took the device outside on a nice clear day where it was well ventilated, plugged it into a power bar with an easy access off switch (as the device doesn't have one) for safety reasons, and turned it on, the smoke has a pungent but not too abrasive smell, though I don't really suggest inhaling it if you can help it.

It took a few minutes to heat up and was quickly able to remove normal iron-based solders, I had some trouble initially with the more difficult iron-free ones, but I then added a little iron-based solder to help with heat transfer to the deeper crevices and was quickly able to remove all of the solder using the sucker (both iron and iron-free) with minimal contact with the sensitive equipment.

As for if I would purchase again, well it does what I purchased it for, but it's more a question of how long it lasts and how many uses I can get out of it to justify the cost savings over other methods.

I was actually blown away by how well this things works. I needed to pull some relays off and it did a great job.
Plug it in outside the first time for 5 minutes since it stinks. Then its good to go.
Plug is weak in the outlet, but for the price, this is 100% worth having. Really sucks the solder up.

Buy it, it makes your life a hell of a lot better.

This is basically a holed soldering iron with a manual solder sucker built in. You can likely get it slightly cheaper elsewhere, but for what it is this model works just fine.

    Pros:
    Works well
    Does not clog
    Can be used one handed
    Makes desoldering bearable
    Superior to a split setup

    Cons:
Hard to open the container to dump
    Tips get worn out fast
Heat up time is pretty slow
    No temperature control
Needs more tips, but I found some.

    Verdict:
Buy it if you don't have a 2-in-1 yet and want to be sure you get one that will do the job.

Let me say this thing works way better and far easier to use compare to a manual squeeze pump desolder sucker.

For the most part I use to remove components and replace with socket components on old vintage computers repairs like the commodore c64.

Further for whatever reason commodore seem to use alot of solder to mount components to mainboard on both side of the board.

While you could clean the pin from the bottom side. There seem to occasionally be a little bit of solder left over on the chips side of the mainboard. This was a bit of a pain because the solder sucker was useless for this problem.

The only cheap way to deal with this problem was to use desoldering wire to clean pins from the chips side.

However you needed to be careful doing this way as more then I couple times I burn some traces and would have bodge wire fix the board.

Lastly my Preciva snap in half right were the tube sucker right around where meets the hot part.

It works great when it's new, but it won't last that long. My broke after about 1/2 year of moderate use.

The is a great product if you only plan to work on a couple things, but it won't stand up to regular repair work.

For the price, this thing is amazing. I have never had success with manual solder pumps that you use in conjunction with an iron, but this thing being an all in one unit works incredibly well. Also, I thought it was going to be cheap and plastic feeling but it actually has a good amount of weight and feels pretty solid and nice.

The only complaints I have are that it says it has a "heating indicator" but there is no light or anything to indicate when it has reached temp and there is no temperature adjustment, so I don't actually know how hot it gets (so be careful when using it on delicate electronics). Also, there is no way to vent the chamber so when you push the plunger back down after sucking in solder while using flux, it pushes it out large, fast streams of hot flux steam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for hobbyist use
Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2023

I've recently gotten into electronics work and retro console refurbishment specifically. A common task is replacing capacitors and using a desoldering wick gets old really fast. As a hobbyist, I can't justify purchasing a Hakko FR301, and the cheaper clones seemed a bit questionable. I decided to give a manual desoldering sucker a try and I don't regret it one bit. It's very easy to operate one-handed, and once you get some practice in, it's very quick.

I started using the bigger nozzle, and while it worked pretty well, I often needed to go back through with a wick to get components to pop loose. After getting a bit more practice and switching to the smaller nozzle, this thing is working awesome. Components often pop loose after the first suction attempt, or wiggle free after tapping them with the iron. I've also removed nearly 50 components without damaging a single solder pad.

Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with how effective and quick this manual desolder pump works. My last project was removing 31 capacitors from a Sega Genesis and I was able to accomplish this without any major hiccups in about a half hour. This would have taken me hours with the a desoldering wick. The only real unknown is the longevity, but I do see that spare tips are available and will be ordering some just to have on hand.

Sometimes the old style of things work better, this one being no exception. A brilliant piece of ingenuity taking the old reliable but clunky large spring suction tube design and adding a heated tip. Massive burst of suction for those tiny holes that you just cannot seem to get open. Worth every penny.
BTW, the other vacuum pump unit still works better on larger holes supplying long-term suction.
