Matcha, also known as MO CHAI, originated in 220-420 AD in China and was brought back to Japan in 1191 AD by Japanese monk Zen Master Eishi. Everyone knows that China's tea culture has a long history; famous tea has more than 100 varieties. Matcha tea leaf is one of our tea that comes from 36 degrees north latitude, with Japan's Uji in the same geographic space; their natural climate is most suitable for the growth of green tea, so matcha from this area is of good quality

    I knew the price was too good to be true but I let the positive reviews fool me. Do not make the same mistake. This tea is not ceremonial grade; in fact, it hasn't even been in the same room as ceremonial grade tea. Maybe not even the same postal code. It may not even know what "ceremonial" means.

    From the second I opened the tin, I knew I had made a mistake with this tea. The colour is dull, not vibrant; compared side by side against actual ceremonial-grade matcha, it's striking how muddy this tea is. The aroma has none of the fresh, creamy, vegetal notes of ceremonial matcha; it smells plasticky and off and weird. The tea froths poorly, tastes bitter and fishy, and sediments out. Also, unlike other sellers that provide metal tins with screw lids, the container comes with a plastic lid that isn't airtight, meaning there's no thought put into quality preservation. Not that there's any to preserve.

    Don't waste your money with this, because getting a refund will be a struggle, and just commit to spending more for better tea.

    The quality isn’t as good as promised (color is darker than ceremonial grade), but it’s still better than anything else I’ve found for the quality and price point. Using it for lattes is fine, especially when sweetened; can’t really taste much of a quality difference then. But it is very bitter on its own. Needs a whisk or handheld electric blender/frother to blend it into steamed milk. Not sure how well it blends just into water.
