Suddenly I felt this urge to dig in a pile of old DVDs but didn't have any device to play them so I bought this DVD player. Super easy to set up and it works just fine. For reference I hooked it up with TCL 5-series using an HDMI cable. The TV is connected with a sound bar via Optical cable and DVD sound comes right out from that sound bar. Just the HDMI cable between TV and DVD player: no extra audio cable needed, though it was included in the package.
It does play various region DVDs. So far I have tried region 1 and 2. Foreign subtitles work too.
Picture quality is quite poor compared to what I became used to but I don't think it's the DVD player to blame. I'm just happy that I can revisit some cult classics that are impossible to find on streaming sites.
