- Reviewed in Canada on March 19, 2025Verified PurchaseSo underrated!
This game is the lovechild of Dark Souls/Seikiro and Assassin’s Creed Shadows and other of their open-world games.
Deep, immersive and captivating story and world.
The deepest combat system I’ve seen in a while.
Difficulty settings that cater to any level, from just enjoying the story without any difficulty all the way to Dark Souls/Seikiro frustratingly hard.
A lot of side missions, quests and stories, that you can skip or enjoy to your heart’s content.
Made in Japan : you feel the dedication to details and fidelity to reality, respect to the history and culture of the developers.
Fully customizable main character and main antagonist, physically and their equipment for your protagonist.
Not far off of a masterpiece.
Main downside : music is not as epic and memorable as others like Witcher 3.
Still would recommend to most gamers.
Watch out, it’s easy to sink 60+ hours into this jewel.

- Reviewed in Canada on April 11, 2024Verified PurchaseI wasn't really sure what to expect out of this game and heard a lot of mixed things about the genre that it would fall in to. Overall, I have been greatly enjoying the game and story, as well as the various game mechanics. I would not necessarily compare this game to a souls-like, however it definitely has certain combat styles that are similar. In terms of the map and quests, and general layout, this game feels like an assassin's creed game. There are difficulty settings which set it apart from a souls like, as you can lower the difficulty to allow you to enjoy the story.
I won't spoil the story, and it is kind of hard to do so as your choices throughout the game influence the progression and ending, as well as various in-game character relationships. Overall I found the length of the game (took me 40 hours to complete - this includes various side questing) adequate and enjoyable. It was long enough to keep me entertained and interested, and the side quests weren't repetitive enough to make me lose interest or motivation.
Overall great game, highly enjoyable. If you're looking for a Ghost of Tsushima like game though, this is not the game for you. Just picture assassin's creed with a Japanese setting

- Reviewed in Canada on May 27, 2024Verified PurchaseGreat game. Fun gameplay. Kind of too long for it's own good
- Reviewed in Canada on January 10, 2025Verified PurchaseIt's a fun game.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 8, 2024Verified PurchaseRise of the Ronin is a great action RPG in the same vein as Nioh or Lords of the Fallen. Caution: not for the faint of heart as difficulty is quite high, but the gameplay is highly rewarding if you're prepared to be patient and try again.
On the downside, there's quite a bit of typical open-world bloat that, while still fun, might have benefitted from being trimmed down.
