About this item

  • Proper Soil for Carnivorous Plants – A low-TDS, nutrient-free blend of peat moss, sphagnum, perlite, and silica sand designed to support healthy root growth and strong traps.
  • Naturally Low in Minerals and Nutrients – Made with low-mineral ingredients to match the nutrient-poor environments that the majority of carnivorous plants require, reducing the risk of buildup that can harm sensitive roots.
  • Prevents Root Rot & Waterlogged Soil – Holds just enough moisture while staying light and aerated, keeping roots healthy and preventing compaction.
  • Works for Both Bog & Tropical Species – Retains moisture for bog plants like Venus flytraps & Sarracenia, while providing aeration for tropical species like Nepenthes that need well-draining soil.
  • Consistent Single-Batch Quality – Every bag is blended in single batches, ensuring the exact same ingredient ratio in every mix—so you always get reliable, high-performance soil.

Everything to make a carnivorous plant thrive
Last year I tried my hand at keeping a tiny Venus flytrap that I purchased at a big box store alive. I've got sort of a green thumb, and knew that I would need to transplant it to a bigger pot. What I didn't know at the time is that carnivorous plants like a special blend of soil, so I transplanted that little guy in regular garden soil hoping to give him the best chance at life. Sadly, it died within a week of the transplant. At that point I didn't know what I had done wrong and was a little offended, as plants never go belly side up in my care so quickly. So I did some research and found out that it was the wrong kind of soil to let it thrive in. I again, this year saw the Venus fly traps in store and I scooped one up, this time I had the knowledge I needed to help this thing thrive. I logged onto 鶹 and discovered the premium soil from Plant King specifically marked for carnivorous plants. I transplanted it into a bigger pot a week ago, and it does not show any signs of wilter. I won't know end results for a few months as apparently Venus fly traps take awhile to start growing. I was impressed with the texture of the soil mix, and I loved that it was from a Canadian Family owned company. There was also cute stickers inside of the soil as well that gave me a good laugh. I hope this soil will keep my guy going, but for now I so far have better results then the last time I transplanted a Venus fly trap.

I've had a Venus flytrap for just under a year and it was doing pretty well in a carnivorous soil that I bought which consisted of only sphagnum moss and perlite. It came in a dry block with the perlite in a separate bag rather than all mixed in there and it was a bit messy to break up the brick of moss and reconstitute it. It cost less than this Plant King Premium but it's less convenient. If you don't want to spend as much, those sphagnum moss and perlite bricks are a decent option but although this Plant King Premium costs a bit more, it has peat moss, sphagnum moss, perlite, silica and coco coir in loose format which makes it a lot easier to repot carnivorous plants and is a superior mix for better drainage.

I repotted my flytrap after dormancy with this Plant King Premium mix and it's been doing really well. It's a bit pricier than the compressed brick format, but I like the quality and the convenience.

I bought this soil for my carnivorous plant, and overall, I’m pretty happy with it—though I’ll be honest, the price gave me pause. It’s definitely on the expensive side for how much you get. That said, the soil quality is good.

The texture of the mix feels just right—light, airy, and drains really well, which is super important for Venus flytraps and similar plants. My plant seems to be doing well after the transplant, no signs of stress or wilting. The roots are staying healthy and not sitting in soggy soil like they would with regular potting mix. You can tell this blend was made with these types of plants in mind.

One thing I appreciated was that there was no weird smell or debris—just clean, fine-quality materials. It came neatly packaged, and even included some fun extras like cute little stickers, which made me smile.

While the product itself is excellent, the price still feels a bit steep for the amount you get. If you’re only working with one or two small plants, it’ll go far enough. But if you have a larger setup, be prepared to spend more or look for a bulk option.

In short: great soil, perfect for picky carnivorous plants, but definitely not the most budget-friendly option. Still, I’d rather pay a bit more and know my plant has the right environment than risk it with the wrong soil again.

My kids bought a tiny Venus flytrap couple months ago and we have been keeping it in its original container. Unfortunately something went recently wrong as the leaves started turning yellow and wilting. We were newbie and didn’t have any experience growing Venus flytrap. However some online research suggested that it might help by switching to another growing medium. So when we saw this soil mix specially designed for it, we were eager to give it a try. It turned out that we had made the right decision and the soil mix was the right fix. We repotted the flytrap with this new soil mix once we received the delivery a few weeks back. The frytrap was slowly recovering and stopped wilting. The Plant King Premium Carnivorous Plant Soil Mix contains a well blend of peat moss, sphagnum, perlite, and silica sand. The mix helps retain moisture well while provides enough drainage for the root. We are absolutely happy to see that the flytrap is growing again, thanks to this premium soil mix which saved its life !

Last year, I purchased a small Venus flytrap and had been intending to transplant it into a more spacious pot. However, finding the type of soil required for carnivorous plants proved nearly impossible where I live, so I kept postponing it until I came across this particular brand.

The soil contains a mixture of sphagnum moss, peat moss, silica sand, and perlite. Having never worked with soil containing such a high proportion of sand, I was initially struck by the unusual texture. My plant's original soil was primarily sphagnum moss, which retained far too much moisture, leaving the roots vulnerable to rot. In contrast, this new blend provides excellent drainage while maintaining the appropriate level of moisture, creating a far healthier environment for the plant.

Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed. The quality is exceptional, free from the insect contamination often found in store-brand soils, and my Venus flytrap appears to have adapted to the transplant remarkably well. I’ll be purchasing more in the future.

    ☑ Positives
    + Awesome quality
+ The ideal mixture for carnivorous plants
+ Retains the correct amount of moisture
+ It came with several drainage discs
