When ¡°Planet Earth¡± premiered in 2006 on Britain¡¯s BBC One, it was the most expensive nature documentary series ever made, and the first to be shot entirely in HD. It was remarkable- and now after 11 years of waiting, we have Planet Earth II. And, that wait was worth it considering incredible footage they have come out with and the cutting edge technology they have used in making. Like the original, ¡°Planet Earth II¡± focuses in each episode on a specific environment ¡ª this time islands, mountains, jungles, deserts, grasslands, and cities. The remarkable thing about Planet Earth II is that the series is shot in such a way that it allows us to experience the world from the viewpoint of the animals themselves. Each episode has created the impression that we're witnessing secret, stolen minutes from the lives of the creatures on screen. The sequel was over three years in the making and, like the original, is narrated by Sir David Attenborough. The entire Planet Earth II crew shot footage in 40 different countries on 117 different filming trips. They used cutting edge technology to bring some of the most inhospitable regions on earth into the living rooms of millions. Technological advances and techniques allows now viewers to experience never-before-seen intimacy and spectacular aerial photography ¡ª the latter includes not just birds-eye and drone-style shots but gliding through jungle tree-tops, following animals with a closeness. There are incredible scenes of beauty and daring as well as some funny moments. In a colorful and breathtaking journey through jungles, deserts, mountains, islands, grasslands and our own cities, this series explores the unique characteristics of Earth¡¯s most iconic habitats and the extraordinary ways animals survive within them. The making-of hour that the BBC provides only makes the feats witnessed prior that much more eye-popping. Sir David Attenborough, at age of 90 continues to be a marvel and still giving us such a nice documentaries and narration. There is no one like Sir David Attenborough for narrating nature documentaries; with his signature style British wit. Overall this series is about about magnificent and jaw-dropping visuals, David Attenborough¡¯s remarkable, warm, intelligent voice, and nice music from Hans Zimmer. Planet Earth II takes nature documentary making to an another level. The BBC Natural History Unit has really outdone itself. This documentary is a truly sublime accomplishment, an epic achievement that everyone should watch.
