Pilot pens are always on my top list, and the Kakuno fountain pen didn't disappoint me either. The fine nib is perfect for my journaling and Zentangle drawing. I love how smooth and easy it is to work with this pen. The package includes a converter which is a big plus for me as I prefer to use a bottled ink vs a cartridge. One cartridge with black ink is included in the set as well.
I'm thinking of getting several more of those sets to use with different ink colours

The only negative I have for this pen are the holes on the barrel. I understand it's a Japanese law for choking hazards on products kids could use, but it means I need to use resin or glue to plug the holes to eyedropper this pen, which I think it will look beautiful with that capacity full of ink.
It writes beautifully for a Japanese fine, and while a little scratchy, it reverse writes an xf-xxf as well. Great for Kanji practice.

It is a decent pen. It gets the job done. However, I wish there was more line variation. The nib is very stiff. You have to press super hard to get any decent line variation. Also, the converter it comes with has a very small capacity. If you do a lot of drawing or writing with the converter as your ink source, it will run out in no time. On the upside, the pen, itself, is decently comfortable to use.

I was looking more for a fountain pen that would act like a dip pen. This isn't really what I am personally looking for. but, I do think that it's a fine pen for someone who is looking to learn how to use pens. So, I don't want to give it too low of a score.

I got this Pilot Kakuno pen to replace the Pilot Metropolitan that I misplaced at work. Using the same size nib and the same ink cartridges as my Metropolitan, the Kakuno has performed admirably. In fact, I recently moved and ended up letting the Kakuno sit with an ink cartridge 1/3 full on a side table for nearly two months. I picked it up this morning, expecting there to be a little bit of skipping when first setting nib to paper, but there was not! There had been no apparent drying of cartridge or nib with the cap on, and the pen wrote as smoothly and easily as if I had been using it only an hour before. For the price, I cannot recommend a better fountain pen.
