Training Tips!

minimize distractions, 1-on-1 training, keep movements to a minimum

1. Minimize distractions

When first starting, make the sessions 1-on-1 and keep your movements to a minimum to allow your pet to focus.

2. Be timely

Make sure you are marking with a click the exact moment your pet fully does the desired action.

3. Reward immediately

Have rewards on you— often small treats— when training so that you are ready to reward right after clicking.

4. Keep it short

You’ll want to stop before your pet becomes disengaged or full of treats. Best sessions are under 15 minutes.

Teach Your Pet How to Sit!

Step 1 - Build the Association

Before starting training, remember to minimize all distractions! To begin, simply click using your Clik-R and give your dog a treat. Continue to repeat this process. This will allow them to associate the clicker's sound with good behavior and treats.

Step 2 - Position Your Dog

Guide or lure your dog into a seated position using your treats. As soon as they sit down, use your clicker and instantly provide them with a treat to reinforce the good behavior.

Step 3 - Add Verbal Commands

As your dog becomes more confident in sitting when provided a treat, begin to say "Sit" before your dog's bottom touches the ground. Once seated, reinforce this behavior with a treat and a click. This will help them associate your words with the action you're teaching.
