About this item
Direct-sow shallowly (0.3–0.6cm deep) in spring/fall; rake lightly. Thrives in USDA zones 3–9, adapting to most Canadian regions (cold-tolerant to -20°C).
Prefers well-draining loam; tolerates poor soil but thrives in fertile, neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.0). Avoid waterlogged clay.
Grows in full sun to partial shade (4–8 hours/day). Optimal at 15–25°C; withstands frost, withstanding brief dips below 0°C.
Keep soil moist (not soggy) during germination. Mature plants tolerate drought; reduce watering to prevent root rot.
Reaches 10–30cm tall. Blooms late spring to fall (May–September), producing small white spherical flowers.
White Dutch Clover is a strain of white clover that originated in Holland.
It is a low growing perennial that is best suited to moist, well-drained, fertile soils.
Being a legume, white clover is able to take nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil through action of bacteria on their roots.
Many years ago white clover was a component of turfgrass mixtures only to fall out of favor with the introduction of selective herbicides.
Today they are once again gaining popularity as a more eco friendly addition to lawns as white clover can supply up to 1/3 of the nitrogen needs for grasses.
It produces white flowers throughout the year and develops prostrate stems that root freely. Grows 4-8 inches high.
