    Mit "Eine Wahnsinnsfamilie" (viel treffender der Originaltitel "Parenthood") gelang Regisseur-Allrounder Ron Howard und seinem Stammautorenteam Babaloo Mandel und Lowell Ganz ein ¨¹berraschend wahrmherziger, wahrhaftiger, zeitloser, mit universellen Wahrheiten ¨¹ber das Leben und vor allem das Eltern- und Kindsein vollgepackter, mal witziger, mal trauriger, aber immer absolut ehrlicher Volltreffer.

    Mit gro?er Souver?nit?t jongliert Howard mit einem fantastischen Gro?ensemble, das aus tollen Schauspielern wie Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, Jason Robards, Dianne Wiest, Rick Moranis, Harley Jane Kozak, Tom Hulce, Martha Plimton, Joaquin Phoenix, Keanu Reeves u.a. besteht. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Familie Buckman, eine amerikanische Familie in St. Louis, angef¨¹hrt von Gil (Martin) und Karen (Steenburgen), Eltern von drei jungen Kindern. Wir begegnen Gil in einer Art Sinnkrise, denn neben seiner stressigen Arbeit erf?hrt er, dass sein ?ltester Sohn eventuell zur Sonderschule muss, wodurch er seine F?higkeiten als Vater hinterfragt.

    Dann ist da seine Schwester Helen (Wiest), alleinerziehende Mutter von Garry (Phoenix), einem introvertierten, gerade in der Pubert?t angelangten Jungen, und der etwas unkonventionellen Julie (Plimpton), die noch in der High School ist und den etwas liebensw¨¹rdig-verschrobenen Tod (Reeves) ohne das Wissen ihrer Mutter heiratet. Auch Helen versucht ihr Leben und die Erziehung ihrer Kinder in den Griff zu kriegen, jedoch tut sie sich schwer, einen Draht zu ihnen aufzubauen.

    Seine andere Schwester Susan (Kozak) ist mit Nathan (Moranis) verheiratet, einem hochintelligenten Wissenschaftler, der etwas unkoventionelle Mikromanagement-Erziehungsmethoden an ihrer kleinen Tochter ausprobiert, die mehr kognitives Wissen als soziale F?higkeiten beinhalten.

    Und zu guter Letzt ist da der Patriarch der Familie, Frank Buckman (Robards). Dieser hatte nie die beste Beziehung zu Gil, da dieser der Ansicht war, als Kind von seinem Vater vernachl?ssigt worden zu sein. Dann erscheint Gils lange von der Bildfl?che verschwundener j¨¹ngerer Bruder Larry (Hulce), der ohne richtigen Job seit Jahren versucht ¨¹ber Gl¨¹cksspiel und zwielichtige Investments zum schnellen Geld zu kommen.

    All diesen Charakteren widmet Howard fast ausgeglichen viel Zeit, er geht auf die Perspektive der M¨¹tter und V?ter gleicherma?en ein, zeigt aber auch einf¨¹hlsam das Gef¨¹hlsleben der Kinder (die ja auch schon teilweise Eltern sind). Es ist wirklich bemerkenswert, wie stark die Figuren charakterisiert sind, wie unterschiedlich ihre Pers?nlichkeiten sind. Das wirkt alles m¨¹helos und ist wunderbar unterhaltsam und bewegend, jedoch kann man dank Howards unsichtbarer Regie leicht verkennen, was f¨¹r eine gro?artige Arbeit er tats?chlich hinter der Kamera leistet.

    "Parenthood" ist besonders dank Steve Martin und einem schlagfertigen, mit geistreichen Spr¨¹chen ausgestattetem Drehbuch immer wieder richtig witzig, scheut sich aber nie vor den ernsten Momenten des Lebens. Der Film ist nie klamaukig, auch wenn das Cover diese Vermutung nahe legen k?nnte. Ganz im Gegenteil, Howard und seine Autoren bem¨¹hen sich um einen sehr realistischen, ausbalancierten Tonfall, der dem echten Leben sehr nahe kommt. Dank der sehr vielseitigen Charaktere und universellen Wahrheiten ist es praktisch garantiert, dass man sich selbst in den Figuren wiederentdeckt und sich mit ihnen identifiziert.

    Es bringt nichts, noch mehr von diesem ¨¹beraus menschlichen und sympathischen Film preiszugeben, es ist jedenfalls sicher, dass man hier viel Wahrheit f¨¹rs Leben mitnehmen kann. Der Dank geht an Howard und die Autoren, die hier ein sehr pers?nliches St¨¹ck abgeliefert haben (zum Produktionszeitpunkt waren die drei V?ter von insgesamt 14 Kindern) und einem wunderbar aufgelegten Ensemble, bei dem jeder seinen pers?nlichen Moment zum Gl?nzen erh?lt.

    Another Steve Martin Comedy from 1989, he did a few family based comedies I seem to remember another one called cheaper by the dozen, and also he starred did Father the Bride 1 and 2.
