Parasite
Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.
Product description
Meet the Park family, the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. By turns darkly hilarious and heart-wrenching, Parasite showcases a modern master at the top of his game.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 9, 2020Verified PurchaseThis is one of the most original and perfectly executed films I’ve ever seen. Even though the film is in Korean, the dialogue, story, and characters are so great that I forgot I was reading them most of the movie. It has an incredibly important/relevant observation and likely criticism about our society and capitalism that many people either don’t think about very often, think about it and try to improve it, or think about it and try to pretend it’s flawless. It’s hard to put in a specific genre but I would say it’s like a Shakespearien Tragedy, because it has the perfect balance of hilarious comedy, heart-pounding thrills, and darkly dramatic storytelling with a certain outlook on the future of its characters. Whether that outlook is pessimistic or optimistic depends on you. Check it out if you want to be introduced to Korean Cinema, especially Bong Joon Ho’s repertoire of films.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una obra maestra
