The plot revolves around the theft of a device that allows people to enter people's dreams and help them make psychological breakthroughs. The thief begins using the device to plant dreams into people's minds, driving them into a suicidal frenzy. It's an interesting thiller/mystery.
The Blu-Ray looks fantastic, with a sharper picture(although I warn you its not immediately noticeable, cartoons aren't necessarily designed for Blu-Ray). The sound is fantastic, especially the haunting melody of "Parade". The menu is non-intrusive, allowing you to change languages/subtitles/scenes without needing to go back to the root menu. It really is a fantastically well programmed disc. The additional content is unimpressive, the usual docs and dvd commentaries, so if you're a stickler for extra content, you will be disappointed at the mostly empty blu-ray disc.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 7, 2018Verified PurchaseThis is a very unique story, mirroring Christopher Nolan's Inception. It cannot be ignored that Paprika came out before Inception but Paprika itself is based on a book from 1993(?). I would say Paprika is a combination of Ghost In The Shell & Inception with some wild animation similar to Akira.
As the movie mentions, dream is the last place of escape for the humankind. Why would one even attempt to share a dream/thoughts? It is a scary place I don't want other people to peek into; nor do I have desire to look into theirs.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 18, 2024Verified PurchaseA must watch.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 28, 2017Verified PurchaseSome might say this inspired the movie "Inception" but that wouldn't be giving all the credit this anime deserve. Filled with awkward and destabilizing moments like only REM sleep can normally provide, Paprika is a wild ride following a logic that only the fully awakened human mind can appreciate to it's fullest. But even more than that, it has dialogues of a poetic quality like you'll rarely find elsewhere.
If you like a movie to take you by surprise and leave you reflecting on the implication of it's themes, then this one is definitely worth the detour.
