    When going to the movies, I want to be amazed and entertained!

    I got both by seeing this movie and it also really shows the love of the director for this project, through impeccably detailed scenes in each shot! I always loved huge monsters in movies, but got tired of the man-in-a-rubber-suit thing. By making the robots and monsters all CGI, this film adds a whole new level of realism! There's also the awesome sense of scale this movie gives out, through different shots that truly makes you feel tiny besides the hulking creatures and machines! I also love the story and most of all the presence of the Marshall (Idris Elba) that really steals every scene when he is on! The guy truly has good presence and commands your attention! Sure there are some clich¨¦s, but I can't think of any monster movies that even comes close to the quality of this one! The design team really outdid themselves as well, since every element truly fits to create a well-rounded universe! I hope the sequel will be as good! Too bad about the Marshall, as I was hoping he would make it somehow.

    Add a bowl of popcorn and you're in for a cool evening! :)

    Pacific Rim is a fantastic check-your-brain at the door action film that fulfills the promise of jaw-dropping spectacle when giant robots fight giant monsters. This will not win awards for being deep and profound, but it's a fun, crowd-pleasing film.

    The 4K transfer of the film comes with some pluses and minuses. On the minus side, there are a few noticeable negatives. The biggest issue for lovers of 4K transfers is that this ISN'T a true 4K transfer. The film was derived from a 2K Intermediate, meaning that while it's still a little more detailed and crisp than the already impressive HD blu-ray, it's not as sharp and crystal clear as it would be if it had been taken from an actual 4K source. The other negative is that while the original blu-ray version came with a second disc of extras, this 4K version doesn't include that. So if you loved the extras from your original blu-ray version, you might not want to let go of it.

    On the plus side, however, Pacific Rim's 4K/HDR transfer is one of the BEST demonstrations of Wide Color Gamut and High Dynamic Range. The colors, contrast, and brightness of the film are significantly better than the HD blu ray. In some respects, the WCG/HDR color presentation actually makes this film look better than it did in its theatrical run. Holographic interfaces are vivid, neon signs take on new life, no details are lost even in the black mecha pilot uniforms, and lights from helicopters and other bright sources can make you squint.

    The other major plus is the audio. Pacific Rim's Dolby Atmos track is one you'll love for how much it shakes the house, and everyone else will hate for the exact same reason. It's no surprise that a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters will give your subwoofer a major workout. But now, with Dolby Atmos adding in extra sound and movement overhead, you'll be immersed in battles and the atmosphere of a mecha hanger like never before.

    So it's a trade-off with the 4K version of this movie. You lose some extras, and the image clarity itself isn't true 4K. But the HDR is amazing, and so is the audio.

    Turn off your brain and enjoy the show! This movie reminds me of the Japanese giant robots comics of my youth. Being a Grendizer fan, this movie appeals to the eternal young boy in me as it opposes giant robots to giant monsters, which it more than enough to please me already. There's a decent story that explains the what and the why of everything but the whole point of the movie is still to display amazing combats of epic proportions between the robots and monsters. I actually think the story should have taken even less place to give more screen time to the action. It is also, of course, visually striking and whatever you may think of the scenario, the special effects are amazing. I can never get enough of it.

    Als alter Gojira (Godzilla) Fan war das ein gro?er Spa?. Hatte ich erst Bef¨¹rchtungen, der Film w?re nicht so gut, hatte ich mich aber trotzdem auf diesen Film gefreut. Ich wurde nicht entt?uscht. F¨¹r Fans des Genres, super Unterhaltung.
    Wie starr wirken dagegen die alten Mecha-Godzilla Filme, mit denen ich das hier mal vergleiche. Der Film ist voller Action, sehr witziger Side-Kicks, besonders zu erw?hnen Charlie Day als Dr. Newton Geiszler und sein Gegenpart, Burn Gorman als Dr. Gottlieb. Guillermo del Torro hat eine Vorliebe f¨¹r deutsche Namen und Bezeichnungen, so hei?en die Mechas ja auch 'Jaeger' im Film, was am Anfang auch durch eine Einblendung erkl?rt wird.
    Ein klasse Film, voll von Reminiszenzen an alte Godzilla Filme - Einstellung mit der kleinen Mako aus der Seitenstra?e heraus auf die Hauptstra?e, wo nat¨¹rlich gleich der 'ikonische' Monsterfu? auftauchen wird. Genial gemacht.
    Die K?mpfe sehr unterhaltsam, weil immer wieder andere Monster auftauchen und diese auch andere, ¨¹berraschende F?higkeiten haben, die die Mecha-Piloten immer wieder vor neue Herausforderungen stellen.
    Bei dem Hauptkampf um Hong Kong dachte ich danach nur, wie will del Toro das noch ¨¹berbieten, so gut fand ich den. Er ¨¹berbietet diesen zwar nicht - da war wirklich alles drin was geht - aber der Schlu?kampf ist anders und sehr packend inszeniert. Also wirklich gut, weil er sich das Beste nicht bis zum Schlu? aufhebt, die Spannung aber trotzdem bleibt.
    Apropos Spannung. Ich habe mich keine Sekunde gelangweilt und dass, doch bei mehrmin¨¹tigen Mecha - Kaiju K?mpfen, um in der Terminologie des Films zu bleiben.
    Dazu kommt noch eine exzellente Blu-Ray mit 20 bis 30 Mbit/s Bilddatenrate und DTS-HD MA 7.1 Ton in DEUTSCH (!!!) - DANKE WARNER! Endlich ist der 'schlechtere' Ton mal endlich auf einer in Deutschland verkauften Blu-Ray nur auf Englisch drauf und der deutsche in der besten Qualit?t die geht. Alleine daf¨¹r w¨¹rde ich schon fast f¨¹nf Sterne geben.
    Das Bild ist etwas bunt von den Farben her aber nicht ¨¹bertrieben und finde ich f¨¹r diesen Film durchaus passend. Bild ist insgesamt sehr gut aber keine Referenz. Die K?mpfe finden im Dunkeln statt, es sind aber genug Details zu sehen. CGI ist absolut ohne Tadel.

    Die normale 2D Blu-Ray ist eine Zwei-Disk Version, auf der einen der Film, auf der anderen die Extras. Leider hat die Disk kein Wende-Cover.
    Ich kann sehr gut verstehen, dass es Menschen gibt, die damit nichts anfangen k?nnen. F¨¹r mich als Fan aber ein ¨¹beraus gelungener Film in dem ich einige Einstellungen aus alten Godzilla Filmen mit Freude wiedererkannt habe.
    Mir hat der Film sehr gut gefallen und mich von der ersten bis zur letzten Sekunde sehr gut unterhalten.

    Daf¨¹r und f¨¹r die hervorragende Blu-Ray Qualit?t mit DTS-HD MA 7.1 volle Sterne.

    F¨¹r alle die Logik und eine irgendwie halbwegs nachvollziehbare Geschichte erwarten, die warne ich vor dem Film. Die Schauspieler haben aber alle ihre Sache sehr gut gemacht - Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi und nicht zuletzt der exzellente Idris Elba und nat¨¹rlich Ron Perlman - sehr glaubhaft und spielfreudig f¨¹r diese Art von Film. Das hat nichts, mit doch mit viel geringerem Budget produzierten Godzilla Filmen aus der vor 2000-?ra zu tun. Das ist schon eher wie der Emmerich Godzilla Film und damit auch durchaus - meines Erachtens - von der Produktion her (Hollywood) zu vergleichen.

    F¨¹r Menschen, die sich nicht an Geschichten st?ren, in denen Godzilla, Rhodan und Ghidora - was ist denn das? - von Au?erirdischen kontrolliert werden und die Erde zerst?ren wollen, sehr zu empfehlen. Alle anderen, sollten um diesen Film einen gro?en Bogen machen oder ihn einfach erst ausleihen und sich nicht ¨¹ber einen Fehlkauf ?rgern...

    Nachtrag: Extras und Ansehen auf der 2,80 m breiten Leinwand.

    Ich habe den Film heute nochmal in meinem Heimkino gesehen - 2,80 m breite Alphaluxx Leinwand, Barium 3 HD Tuch, SIM2 D80E Projektor, Oppo BDP-103 Player, Denon AVP-A1HD-SP/K, Audionet AMPV und AMPVII Endstufen und Teufel Theater 8 in 9.2, mit Audyssey Pro eingemessen.

    Also, einfach beeindruckend. Die Bildqualit?t verfehlt bei den Live-Szenen mit Schauspielern - also nicht CGI Szenen - ganz knapp Referenzstatus, da doch leider ein paar kleine Unsch?rfen da sind. Insgesamt aber hervorragend. Die CGI-Szenen sind exzellent aber - wie immer - nicht ganz so scharf. Oftmals kommt aber Wasser vor und das wirkt sehr echt. Alle CGI Szenen wirken sehr, sehr realistisch. Alle Gr??enverh?ltnisse stimmen und besonders das Licht ist absolut passend. Kein Wunder bei John Knoll (wer Videoschnittprogramme kennt, kennt die Knoll-Tools), der die Special Effects machte. Steht ILM (Industrial Light and Magic, George Lucas) in nichts nach. Exzellente Arbeit!

    Der Film wurde mit RED Kameras aufgenommen, die exzellent, gerade auch in dunklen Situationen arbeiten, wie man schon bei 'Underworld Awakening' eindrucksvoll sehen konnte - auch mit REDs aufgenommen.

    Der Ton in 7.1 DTS HD MA ist sehr gut aber 7.1 also die r¨¹ckw?rtigen LS, werden nur sp?rlich eingesetzt, z.B. wenn der Gipsy Danger Mecha an den Strand kommt und die schweren Fu?stapfen aus den Rears kommen, w?hrend man den Vater mit dem Jungen am Strand sieht. Nicht so oft sehr pr?gnant, aber sehr gut und tr?gt zum Sound-Score sehr gut bei. Bei den K?mpfen nat¨¹rlich auch aber eher unterschwellig. Ramin Djawadi ist eine fast Hans Zimmer 'like' Musik gelungen, mit einem hervorragenden Wiedererkennungswert, zum 'Mitwippen'.
    Nicht unerw?hnt bleiben sollten auch Travis Beacham f¨¹r die Story und Guillermo Navarro, der seine eigenen REDs und Obejktive zum Dreh mitgebracht hat - laut IMDB.

    Die Extras nun, die auf der zweiten Disk drauf sind: Das Tagebuch des Regisseurs, Behind the scenes: Drift space, Behind the scenes: The digital artistry of Pacific Rim, Behind the scenes: Shatterdome, Entfernte Szenen und Blooper Reel.

    Guillermo del Toro schreibt in seinem Tagbuch des Regisseurs: It is my poem to the giant monsters movie I loved as a child.

    Das bedeutet: Es ist mein Gedicht, meine Huldigung, an die Riesenmonsterfilme, die ich als Kind geliebt habe.

    Das ist es absolut und ich f¨¹hle mich da sehr aufgehoben und m?chte Guillermo del Toro DANKE sagen, denn das ist genau das, was es auch f¨¹r mich ist.

    Dies ist kein Film f¨¹r die breite Masse sondern f¨¹r Fans, die die alten Godzilla Filme lieben, wie Guillermo des Toro selbst schreibt und neue Fans von Animes und Mangas von Mechas und Kaiju.

    All denen hat Guillermo del Toro einen Riesen Gefallen getan.

    Oder wie meine vierzehnj?hrige, halb-japanische Tochter sagte: Das ist aber ein sehr japanischer Film...

    Il film ¨¨ tutto un omaggio alla cinematografia giapponese, e narra una storia originale, divertente e assolutamente non impegnativa; l'ideale per una serata tra amici.
    Il richiamo al Giappone parte dai vecchi film di Godzilla, con mostri giganti che devastano le citt¨¤, a cui sono stati aggiunti dei giganteschi robot, che strizzano l'occhio ai famosi cartoni animati di Mazinga e Goldrake.
    Una menzione particolare va fatta al comparto tecnico: audio e video sono di altissimo livello, e finora non ho mai visto un 3D cos¨¬ ben fatto e privo dei soliti difetti (immagini sfocate, sequenze confuse, colori sbiaditi). A mio avviso ¨¨ perfino meglio di Avatar, che rispetto a questo film vanta un girato in 3D nativo: un gran lavoro di post-produzione, quindi!
    Consigliatissimo.

    La versi¨®n BluRay de Pacific Rim ya era espectacular, con esta edici¨®n 4K la pel¨ªcula roza su perfecci¨®n.

    HDR10 elevado a su m¨¢xima expresi¨®n, y audio Dolby Atmos (en la versi¨®n en ingl¨¦s).

    Para m¨ª, la pel¨ªcula m¨¢s redonda de Guillermo del Toro (me da la sensaci¨®n de que el mism¨ªsimo Spielberg sinti¨® envidia al verla). Lo tiene todo: gran gui¨®n, grandes actuaciones de los actores y mucha qu¨ªmica entre los personajes, fotograf¨ªa de 1?, infograf¨ªa 3D que resiste el paso del tiempo, y una banda sonora memorable que acompa?a a la perfecci¨®n a la pel¨ªcula...

    Imprescindible, es una pel¨ªcula para los fans de Mazinger Z, para los fans de los Kaijus, y para cualquier cin¨¦filo en general.
