5.0 out of 5 stars Can add a light to a grip head with this
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2024
鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
The boom arms on my C stands have 5/8" spigots (baby pins) integrated into the end, so that's where I put my light by default. But I often want to use multiple lights close together (like for a backdrop and a rim light), so having a baby pin for a grip head gives me the option of doing this without another whole stand. Nice!

I also like using heavy duty clamps with a baby pin, clamping them on the C stand pole for the same purpose.

Anyway, this baby pin seems to be manufactured about as well as one would hope. I have no complaints.

One side has two indentation sections, and within each are small drilled out/countersunk depressions that can better hold a set screw. Those extra depressions make it just a little better than it could've been if they weren't going forquality. Others I've seen have one small flat section for the same purpose, but the effect should be about the same—stopping a set screw from spinning—except that the countersunk version here helps control it in all directions.

This baby pin is long enough that it can go in a grip head and still stick out a good amount. This either allows a light to sit out a bit from the grip head (sometimes you need that extra bit of space), or gives you length to set a deep well on a light farther down on the pin so it's more secure if it's vertical. That's what I did with the handle of the flash/optical snoot combo in my sample pics.

However, I also put the baby pin in upside down! The little crosswise hole on the other end should be able to stick out the bottom so a cotter pin or safety wire can go through it. I don't quite know what the smooth hole in the tip of the double-countersunk-holes-side is for, but if you do, you can see it's there!

Hard to mess up an all metal stud. It feels solid and holds lights and accessories via grip heads.
