The Automatic Feeder has some great features — the app is easy to use, Alexa integration is smooth, and the anti-bite power cord is a thoughtful touch. But it’s just not built with larger dogs in mind. The main issue is the serving size: each portion is really small, so I have to schedule 4 to 6 servings just to make a single meal. That defeats the convenience of an automatic feeder and makes me uneasy about leaving for a full day. It might work well for cats or small dogs, but for anything bigger, it’s more frustrating than freeing.

We ordered three of these feeders to feed our cats while we were away for a week in January 2024. We tested them all for a couple of days beforehand, all seemed to work great! The feeders seemed good quality and were very easy to set up to keep "an eye on remotely" through the app. From what we could tell, all three worked for the week we were away, at least according to the app. After we were back, we cleaned them and stored them carefully in their original packaging to be used again in the future.

Seven and a half months later, we brought them back out because we were going away for four days. We again tested them for a few days ahead of time, to make sure they were all working correctly. One of the three was not...it said on the app that it dispensed the food and in reality, it did not. So we used a back up auto feeder (a different brand that was not a wi-fi feeder). When we got back from this second trip, we discovered a second of these three Papifeed feeders also wasn't working properly! Like the other one, the app said it was dispensing food and in reality it wasn't. We even tried (with both of the ones not working) to dispense food manually through the app, and neither of the two feeders would work, though the app said they did. So now only one of the three seems to be working (all three less than eight months old!) and we no longer trust that any of this brand will work when we are not here keeping an eye on them. That is the reason for the one star.

I bought this feeder for two reasons - to try to reduce overfeeding since my cats are 'grazers' and they would ask me for food throughout the day and I would lose track of how much I was feeding them which has led to overfeeding and weight gain. Also, I would get swatted by a paw in the morning for early feedings, so this has helped me sleep in, so it has been an overall success. The set up with my Android smartphone and the feeder was very simple and it was easy to set up the times and portions.

UPDATE: I discovered that if you lift up the machine and place it over top of the edge of the black food dish it does actually stay connected. Yay! -- My only issue has been that my cats are dragging the food dish at night or early morning trying to get more food out before the morning feed, which results in the kibble going all over the floor. I am trying to find something non-stick to go underneath the food bowl as it does not attach directly to the feeder. The customer service has been great so far. Even with this issue I would highly recommend this automatic feeder for your pets.

He is extremely obsessed with food and on our days off as soon as the sun starts to come up if either of us move a muscle while still trying to sleep he starts to cry because he wants one of us to get up and feed him. Had this 3 days and so far goes off like clockwork at 7AM and 3PM. He is a big 40lb Boston so he gets 3/4 cup at every feeding, which is 5 servings on this feeder. We counted as we filled it and it should last exactly a week before needing to refill so we timed it with garbage day so we remember to feed the dog when we take garbage out to the curb. There are 3 people in our house and once he didn't get fed because we all thought the other fed him dinner, so this prevents that as well.
If I had to dig deep and find something to complain about, it's loud enough it wakes me up when the food hits the metal bowl - but wether it's the food or a beeping or a voice recording there needs to be some sound alerting him his food is ready. We have a ranch floorplan with wood floors so sound carries. If you have a multi level and carpet maybe less loud.
And our dog is still a little confused because the last 8 yrs of his life he can't eat until he is given permission to, so a few times he stood there crying waiting for someone to tell him he could eat it. But I think he'll get over that.
The bowl itself is really small. If you have a big dog or one with big lips this might be hard for them to maneuver.
And the App is super basic. Would be cute if I could replace the cartoon dog face with a picture of my pup. And an empty or low indicator would be nice, but like I said I think we'll be able to time it just right so it's never empty. And you can see the food level through the clear plastic.
So far a great buy and would buy again!

Delivers on schedule. The food for our 50lb dog is on the upper diameter size for what this feeder can do, but still works fine. For our dog food pellet size, we feed her 1 cup in the morning and 1 at night. We’ve found that 1 cup of our food pellet size is 8 portions. I the overall bin holds enough to cover her for 4 days or 8 meals.

Update: We’ve found it continues to work…most of the time. I knocked off two stars because there have been a few times it did not dispense the entire amount, or not at all. I currently refill it every 4 days, but I don’t think I would fully trust it to deliver the food for 4 days without anyone there. I do have an indoor camera that can monitor if it dispensed food or not so I can have a neighbor drop by if it did not. So overall, it does its job most of the time, but I would not trust it completely over a period of several days.

Second update: rarely works now. The app says it feeds every time but it does not dispense. Still using same dog food as when we first bought it, but seems like it’s losing torque and no longer and to turn the wheel to dispense the food very much unless there is almost no food in the storage container.

Second update:
Reported issues to manufacturer since problem arose outside of the amazon return window. The manufacturer honored their manufacturer warranty and sent a replacement within 3 days.

I was not compensated in any way for this review. Feeder was shipped using Prime and arrived in 2 days. The unit is small and functional and we bought it to feed a feral cat that hangs out around our house when we travel. I connected it to my wifi and followed the instructions provided in the manual. Set up was fairly easy. We set it up in a cat box we have outside on our deck and it fit perfectly. Also secured it with bungee cords so it doesn’t fall over or when the neighborhood raccoon decides to come visit. A Velcro belt came with the unit to secure the cover and it is tightly fitted. Food dispenses on time with scheduled feedings. We also made sure the size food wasn’t too big as it may get stuck according to what was advised in manual. We have a mix of meow mix and temptations dry food and there were no issues with food getting stuck. We also tested the feeder using the manual feed option when we were away from home and there were no connection issues. I can say this feeder is a good value and quality is good. Since it has only been a few days we hope it will last for a long time without having any problems.

Update October 13:
Unit continues to work great dispensing dry food with no wifi connection issues when we are away from home.

Update December 7:

Good feeder and perfect size

I was not compensated in any way for this review. Feeder was shipped using Prime and arrived in 2 days. The unit is small and functional and we bought it to feed a feral cat that hangs out around our house when we travel. I connected it to my wifi and followed the instructions provided in the manual. Set up was fairly easy. We set it up in a cat box we have outside on our deck and it fit perfectly. Also secured it with bungee cords so it doesn’t fall over or when the neighborhood raccoon decides to come visit. A Velcro belt came with the unit to secure the cover and it is tightly fitted. Food dispenses on time with scheduled feedings. We also made sure the size food wasn’t too big as it may get stuck according to what was advised in manual. We have a mix of meow mix and temptations dry food and there were no issues with food getting stuck. We also tested the feeder using the manual feed option when we were away from home and there were no connection issues. I can say this feeder is a good value and quality is good. Since it has only been a few days we hope it will last for a long time without having any problems.

Unit continues to work great dispensing dry food with no wifi connection issues when we are away from home.
