    Another great concert by Ozzy.
  • Reviewed in Canada on July 23, 2003
I saw this DVD and i think it's great. First, Ozzy is not the best singer but he wrotes all of his classic songs (for example "Crazy Train", "Mr. Crowley" or "Bark at the Moon") and try to do everything at the best as he can. He's a live Rock star legend.
Next, the king Zakk Wylde, he's unique, Randy Rhoads has his own and unique guitar style, Randy is a legend and one of the most important guitarists of ALL TIME, but Zakk, he is not Randy, he has, of course, the most powerfull personality when he plays live, you watch the TV and you will be able to see the most powerfull guitarist of all the world. Zakk has speed, felling and technique in all his solos.
After that, instead of Mike Bordin, I like Randy Castillo but it's imposible to see Randy Castillo again, but Mike do a great job and Robert plays very good.
Finally, there are many songs missed in the DVD ( "Miracle Man", "Perry Mason", "Goodbye to Romance", "Flying high Again" and "Shot in the Dark", for example) and All of the missed songs there are classics too.
I recommend that DVD, Ozzy and Zakk don't need support shows by other bands like Linkin Park (horrible band), Papa Roach (better than Linkin Park) or System of a Dawn (sounds good but it is not metal). The true metal has talent and very complicate solos, not is only screams and noize.

    This dvd rocks.
I admit, I hestitated to buy it at first because I was afraid it might be just another case of a classic older rocker filming a sub-par show that looks and sounds great technically, but has a tired performance. Too many bands like Yes and Deep Purple are still touring but just don't hit it anymore in concert. I could only hope that Ozzy still rocked, and live up to the legend he built, and still pack a quality punch live, the way that The Who or Roger Waters or Fleetwood Mac still do on their newer dvd's. So I bought the "Ozzy Live At Budokan" disc, and popped it in, and... and... and...
    OZZY ROCKS HARD!
From the opening seconds, with the crowd going wild and Ozzy shouting "Let's Go ... CRAZY!!" there is not a weak moment to be seen. Ozzy's band is spot-on, and they launch into great versions of "I Don't Know" and "Mr. Crowley" and "Crazy Train" respectfully keeping Randy Rhoads' guitar leads in tact. The new hit, "Gets Me Through" is there, along with an encore of "Paranoid" from Ozzy's Black Sabbath Days.
Having watched all of MTV's "The Osbornes" and seeing how confused and lumbering the Ozz-man could be at times, I was totally impressed by his live energy, his vocal range, and his timing. He sounds just like he did in younger days, and belts it out like a pro, never missing a beat. Interestingly enough, Ozzy is NEVER out of breath while running around and singing (unlike young pop-stars Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera who sound far more winded when they try to move and sing at the same time!) and just as importantly, Ozzy RULES the crowd at this show. I love watching him dump water on the front row or the camera-man, or yelling that the Budokan crowd is not going crazy enough. He is obviously having a blast, and his band is too, and it is great to finally SEE what the Budokan auditorium looks like at last. I wondered about that since Cheap Trick's days!
Bonus features include "The Osbournes in Japan", shopping and eating, and having their usual argumentative brand of fun---it is like a lost episode of the Osbournes.
Get this dvd, turn it up, and enjoy! --mf

A lot of music fans must be wondering why bands like to record live albums in Japan, esp. when the fans are more subdued, well behaved and very appropriately (or unappropriately, depending on how u see it!) dressed for metal concerts. But upon finishing watching this, the answer is pretty simple. Quality.
The visual quality here is simply astounding, and this is definitely the most visually appealing DVD that I have. The images are really sharp, with the camera angles changing constantly. The audio mix is excellent as well, and you can really compare the difference with the Megadeth DVD. Zakk's guitar is HUGE here, with tons of distortion and gain which enables him to pull off wicked sounding harmonics. The bass and drums, however, could use some improvement esp. with the lower frequencies.
Zakk was simply terrific here, nailing every single note with conviction and with great style too ! His huge beard did give me a shock at first, and along with those wrist brace, he really did look like a true metal warrior lol. His lead playing on stage has improved tremendously since the Loud and Live days as he seems to be more careful and attentive to hitting the right notes. And damn those pinch harmonics of his ..
Ozzy has really aged alot since I last saw him. However, he did pull of the vocals pretty well I must say. Great job indeed for a guy his age (the guys at Deep Purple sure could use some lessons from him!) Mike Bordin was awesome, and he really filled up the gaps well with plenty of varied beats and ultra cool drum rolls. He's definitely injected that missing aggression into the songs.
I've yet to check out the extra features tho, but I must say, this is truly an impressive live performance and a HUGE improvement from the Live n Loud days.
